Default Oil Catch can question...

Is the PCV valve still needed if you have the catch installed?

If so, why?

Also, on the LS1, is the thick cable thats attached from the PCV valve to the block needed?

Thanks,
al

This article explains why we need a PCV valve. Hint: the PCV and a catch can have different functions.

^ thats an intersting article BUT I still think that not putting the pcv valve on after installing a catch can is not going to make a significant change.

I say keep the valve as it controls the flow and crank case pressure. The catch can only helps condense some of the oil vapors and keep it from gumming up the intake tract. Unrestricted flow would probably overwhelm the small volume of the can.

OK..... still what about the cable attached to the PCV, does it stay attached or can it be removed?

Correct me if I'm wrong everyone, but it is just there to hold the unit in place... so it can come out if you don't like it...

Peace

As for the cable, I thought it was a ground of some sort.

Seems odd to me that GM would use such heavy gauge cable to secure a PCV valve!
