Apparently toasted the dreaded OS in my 94 caused by a shorted pigtail at the coil.
Quess it fried the OS diodes. Took a close look at the MSD install option.
For those of you running the MSD are there any compatibly issues such as
MSD coil, MSD module needed to make this thing work?
Optioned and purchased the OS, Jegs own brand at $250. Jegs has the MSD at $160.
Got excellent overnight service from Jegs. Are there any clear performance and reliability advantages with the MSD system?
But to answer your question with a C5 related answer, LTCC is a good buy plus a set of coil packs from an LS1, and you'll never have to deal with a opti again. I had to goto one on my camaro, the spark wasnt strong enough with me turbo setup.
I've had several opti spark equipped Camaros. Still have one.
Definitely go with the OEM GM unit for your car. Problems have been reported with every aftermarket unit I have ever heard of. You are best off getting an OEM unit from an online discount GM parts seller.
Call Jason, he passes on the discounted prices to enthusiasts and is 100% releable.

I wish the MSD distributor was $155. It's about $515 or so. $155 is a MSD cap and rotor.
I too have heard the MSD or the GM are the only way to go. The Jegs one looks just like a GM one though but is very likely a Chinese knock-off. My module is still good but cap and rotor are done so I might still go with it and save some $$. If it dies I'll change the module from the distributor I have.
I'm really surprised no-one has come out with a separate pickup for these things yet. What is wrong with all the manufacturers? Can't see that market? Lots of people would pay you $50 for the pickup instead paying GM $350 or more for the whole distributor.

Oh yeah, the NAISSO Impala SuperStore had the GM Opti cheaper than anyone else. I think they still do.
