Lou you must be bored at work:)
As I probably suspect you have driven both, as I have. I did some extensive test driving on two GTS models and I own a Z06. After driving/floggin the Viper GTS...I did not like the A-piller in my field of view. And the C5 has less rattles, and is a pleasure to drive in most weather conditions. In fact it's been raining in the SF Bay area and I've been very happy driving my Z06. The yaw control is marvelous:)
The Viper GTS is great to look at and probably looks better than the Viper 2002-3 replacement model.
As it turns out, my Z06 is the slowest 1/4 mile car that I own:)
Sorry Mitch
Bang for the buck the Camaros and Firebirds win. No dice. Stock SS costs 33K and makes 320 Crank HP. To make the same RWHP as the 02 Z06 he has to spend 10K. (That is real HP and not Bottle fed HP.) If you are going to spend 43K on a Camaro and for another 6K you can get a new Z06. Now thats hands down a decision to go for the Z. The rest of the car is defintely worth more than 6K. Just my opinion. I love the Camaro too. My love affair with the camaro started in 1968 and has not faded yet. I just got to the point that I could afford a Vette a few years ago and the rest is history.
As far as bang for the buck goes, I'd get a 'standard' Z28 over the SS. In late summer, I saw a brand new 01 Z28 6 speed hardtop advertised for $19,800. That's right over 300 horsepower for under $20,000. I think that is a fantastic bargain. let's see, an air intake for $200 and a Borla cat back exhaust for $800 and your are rockin and rollin for just over $20K
Here I am ! I just get tired of people comparing chrysler junk to the superior engineered Corvette. To hell with poltical correctness call it like it is. As far back as I can remember Chrysler was the bottom of the big three, While its true they have produced a few powerfull engines the cars themselves were inferior rattle traps. There's more to a car than just a big engine. I would say that a porsche or a Ferarri would be a fairer comparison as far as quality. If you want to pay two or three times the price :smash:
I've previously had a Y2K Viper GTS, a 01 996TT, 98 Diablo SV and currently an 02 Z06. Of those four cars, the Viper was by far the most unreliable. Eight warranty trips to the dealer with multiple complaints in one year and 2800 miles, anything from twelve-inch paint runs to blown AC compressor. My Viper's built quality is shoddy at best. My Viper could have been one off, but with my Daimler-Chrysler products experience, which includes a Jeep GCL and a Mercedes S55 AMG, I would say, the D-C build cars that constantly need warranty repairs. It's sad....
Re: "Is a Porsche better then a Vette, who knows" (QUATTROLUV)
You know, you guys amaze me. What a bunch of f-ing hipocrites. I see threads by people on here who are p-o'ed that the Viper guys are slamming the Vettes and how snobby and closed-minded they are. Your worse than they are! I'll bet 90% of the Viper bashers on this forum haven't driven one. They are different cars built for different BUYERS. I've been on this forum far longer than on the Viper forum. I thought the Vette guys had more class than to spank on other sports cars. You guys shame me. :mad
Re: "Is a Porsche better then a Vette, who knows" (QUATTROLUV)
Which part of junk did you not understand stupid, Just because I offend you with the truth you call me a redneck! The facts speak for themselves, Just visit the viper website & see what they say about vette owners & all they talk about is there next trip back to the dealer for more warrenty work. I've owned many Vette's & everyone of them were reliable. Beside's is this not a corvette
forum? What are you doing here anyhow! :jester
Re: "Is a Porsche better then a Vette, who knows" (turbolou)
I own both and have not had much trouble with either car. Quality seems to be pretty good on both. I don't have a problem with either car except that they both make my blood boil. I luv'em. :seeya
Re: "Is a Porsche better then a Vette, who knows" (J-C-5)
Mr. Pickette, don't judge Vette owners by ole tired Mr. Lou.. most of em are pretty cool, and if possible many would have a Viper and a Vette...Leave Mr. Lou alone... :D :hat :jester :troll :hat
Re: "Is a Porsche better then a Vette, who knows" (J-C-5)
I only bad mouth the Viper because of my ownership experience. Yes, not only I've driven one, I've actually owned one for 13 months. My only regret is not selling my JUNK Viper GTS sooner. What a piece of $#1t! :U
BTW, you will never ever hear me bad mouth any car I've never owned, let alone driven
Re: "Is a Porsche better then a Vette, who knows" (wiz357)
Wiz: I have read many of your posts about your Viper. It was definitely a POS. I would have gotten rid of it much sooner also. I've never bought a car that was that much trouble. I guess I am just lucky.
Re: "Is a Porsche better then a Vette, who knows" (QUATTROLUV)
Good Lord you guys...all cars are awesome in their own rights. Anyone saying they wouldn't want a S7? Or a Lambo? I even recall being wowed by the 5.0 Mustang LS, Goats and Road Runners. And I'm sorry, but I still turn at the sight of a beautifully restored Chevelle or Camaro, and I think we all respect the Grand National.
OF course, these cars dont have jokes about them like we do!!
(Whats a difference between a porcupine & a corvette? Porcupines have ****** on the outside). When I hear that one, I kinda smile and think about all the people who're calling me bad names when playing golf...They're doing it cuz I can outdrive them :)
