Default Viper vs Vette

In my opinion Viper technology is inferior to the corvette, The workmanship is shoddy, The interior is uncomftable, Its overpriced. Anyone can stuff a 8 liter
engine in a orange crate & haul butt, :chevy

This all may or may not be true but I think the direct comparisons we make here sometimes are pointless.

Is the Vette better than a Porsche, who knows, it's just different. They both achieve their mission or purpose well.

Direct comparisons sometimes are pointless is all I am saying, each car has it strengths and weaknesses and depending on what the buyer values most can be better or worse.

As for the fact that anyone can stuff 8 Litres into a box and make it go fast, so what. The Honda guys would say the same thing about us needing 5.7 litres to make 3 or 400HP. It's just a different formula to achieve success each with its own merits.

Here we go again! Another thread guaranteed to get everyone worked up.

I love Corvettes, but I also like Vipers, Porsches, Ferraris, etc etc. They're all great cars and each one brings something to the table lacking in the others. To me the issue is economics. I'm not rich, so I had to choose the car that gave me the most of what I wanted, at a price I could live with. In terms of bang for the buck, IMHO Corvette wins hands down.

To each his own, but I'd have a Viper in my garage in a heartbeat if I had the $$$!!! They're extremely sharp with lots of good old American muscle under the bonnet - what else is there to not like???!!!! I love my Z06, but I'd love to have a Viper right next to it!!!!!! :D :D

I write: Actually, in terms of bang for buck the Camaros and Firechickens win hands down. Once you get the Vette cost structures you have already left the bang for buck....

On the other hand, any motorcycle is a better bang for buck than almost any car.....

But back to the topic at hand. I think we need to remember that any car enthusiast (ricers included) is more on our sides (speed, lax enforcement of traffic laws, justifying a day spend primping the car,...) than any driver who just uses the vehicle as transportation.

Vipers, Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Monteverdis, some Mercedes, some BMWs, and a couple of japaneese imports are all wonderful cars for drivers, and for driving. The fact that some of us like one brand or car or set of cars better than other sets of cars is more like rooting for your favorite professional sports team.

For many, the Vette is a better purchase than (pick from above list). For others different economic situations and/or preferences exist to make a (pick from above list) a better purchase than a Vette. It should not be a contest of vette enghusiasts against (pick from above list) enthusiasts! It should be all enthusiasts against all non-enthusiasts! Only by sticking together can our voting weight manefest itself in our collective driving intrests.

I like 'em all.

One can only pick better for HIMSELF.

I guess I have to agree with you .. it's all relative to how much money you've got to spend, and what you want out of it. In terms of bang/buck, I had a little turbocharged Eclipse about 10 years ago which was a great car for the money. I guess I should rephrase my statement to indicate that in the $50K price range, 'vette is the best bang for the buck .. again IMHO.

I recently watched the special on Vipers on SpeedVision. One of the drivers interviewed stressed that you cannot really appreciate what the Viper can do until you get in on the race track. The same holds true for the Z06 to some degree. When I try to drive the Z06 on the streets the way it was meant to be driven some people get very irate!

Viper vs. Vette? I guess it depends on how much you want to spend and how and where you want to drive it. I don't agree with the comment about Viper technology. Dodge engineering did their homework. The GTS looks like the Shelby Cobra.

I went from a Z28 to the Z06 and like to drive both. If I had the bucks for a faster car I would get a 2002 Z06 or the Viper GTS.

Here I am ! I just get tired of people comparing chrysler junk to the superior engineered Corvette. To hell with poltical correctness call it like it is. As far back as I can remember Chrysler was the bottom of the big three, While its true they have produced a few powerfull engines the cars themselves were inferior rattle traps. There's more to a car than just a big engine. I would say that a porsche or a Ferarri would be a fairer comparison as far as quality. If you want to pay two or three times the price :smash:

Yeah, it sounded like you were tired... get your rest.. I have had different cars over the years.. my Corvette, an ex show car, absolutely beautiful, candy apple burgandy, lavender pin stripes. rattle?? boy n how... did I like it? At the time it was great.. wasn't very quick, but it was stock and ran as well as it should have. My 94 RT/10, not as quick as my 23 T bucket I had, 427, 11.15 to 1, 1800 lbs redlined at 7200 rpm.. that car jumped to 90 like nuthin else I have ridden in... The Viper? Loud, raucous, no frills.. stereo was a token effort, plastic windows, have downshifted to third, nailed it and went sideways. Compare it to the Vette.. no. A Ferrari? no.. An old Cobra, or 58 Vette? In a heartbeat... Turbo Lou.. we are talking sportscars, there are people who believe this whole topic is frivolous from the standpoint that these cars are toys, impractical, and a danger. The Corvette is listed among the five most dangerous cars on the road! All said.. enjoy your ride, as you progress in life and can afford a nicer toy, enjoy that one.. make some friends and enjoy the holidays!! and get some rest..!!

I wont argue for one or the other. If I could afford two toys I would own them both. Who wouldn't :yesnod: ! I happen to own a Viper right now and No I didnt sell myself to Dodge. I can see some valid points for both. I can only give my opinion. Remember that's all it is, one's opinion. I dont compare the two.Outside the fact they are two seater sports cars. They are totally different. I'M a true Corvette enthusiast. I've owned everything from a 77'(my first)to a 69 big block convertible, 87 Callaway TT , 2000 convertible. My affordability was the climb into the next car. So when it was time to afford a Viper. I took it. No regrets whatsoever. I bought a creampuff (8k)and in less than a year (21k) - no problems. I drive them. If you like your creature comforts- heads up, cruise, memory seats, cup holders, door handles  (92 thru 96RT no outside door handles)then stay with your corvette. The intentions werent there when they built this car. Should they have included those things ? for the money they should have. Then again it wouldnt make the car what it is.
Is it the fastest thing in the world. NO. I drag race everything I've owned. I dont bulls#@t about how fast it is.The proof is in the pooding. Show up or shut up. My 00 C5 (cold air, exhaust) ran a best for me of a 13.23 @ 104mph. My 96RT (K&N and smooth tubes only - mods are not cheap for these cars) and it has ran a best of 12.68 @109mph. Not too many cars (stock form) can do that. Yes you can dump the money difference in your C5 and blow a viper away. But pull up to that light and 9 times out of ten your women is checking out my car. ;) Just kidding. I can say the whole time I drove my Corvette around (top down always) I got the occasional nod or nice car-comment.Sometimes a challenge here or there. Get a Viper and see what happens. Women flasing thier toes  it's horrible.
