Default 2000 pricing

My boss called me today and wanted to know about vette pricing. He has been looking for one ever since I took himm for a ride. He found a 2000 with 23k on the clock for 23988 at CarMax. Going to check it out for him later today for options. what do you guys think? Do you think they will negotiate or is that set in stone?

Carmax is nation wide and is effectivly a "Chain". It would be like negotiating price on something at Walmart. That's one of their taglines "Set Prices". I'm not a huge fan of them.

Price is high but not terrible, especially if it came with a nice warranty. It makes you wonder what kind of guy would sell his C5 to Carmax though? Perhaps he just wanted to get rid of it to get something else... There's a lot of good private party C5s for sale, too. It's better to buy from an enthusiast than a sales chain.

A buddy of mine bought his used 2000 from a dealership with no warranty. He's spent about 1500-2000 on electrical repairs since then (new alternator, new PCM harness, new battery etc etc)... but your friend's could also be perfectly fine, it's just a thought.

You didn't say if it was a cpe or a 'vert. That's pretty low miles for a 2000. Not a bad price for either especially if it comes with a decent warranty which your not going to get with a private sale.

Not a bad price... depends on the options, coupe or vert, and the pedigree of course!

when I contacted carmax about a 'better' price they told me no.

I bought my 00 August 07 for $22k, 36k miles. coupe, mn6, dual climate and hud. and the most important option (to me) WHITE!!

I think I over paid a bit (just a bit though) but it was the lowest km 2000 I could find in my price range.

Cash makes them negotiate

Are you buying it out right or getting financing?

Default Update!

So, I went to see the car. Hud, magnesium wheels (rt side scratched), glass top. Rode ok, accelaration and shifting was okay and no fade during braking. Now, here's the twist. While i was there, a guy was selling his 03 AE vert and car max was ready to give him a check for 26k. I called my boss and I told him about the vert. the vert was very clean and fully loaded except for the 10 disc cd changer and it's a manual. The guy was willing to sell to him for the same price as Car Max. Which one should he get? 03 vert with 40k fully loaded or a 00 coupe auto with 23k? I was leaning for him to get the 50th. Price wise would have been the same 23998+tax= 25897 compare to 26k out the door. I also told him the forum.

I would go with the vert, very easy decision for me, three years newer and a vert.

he is probably snooping around in here. I wonder if he gets any sleep tonight. He is probably checking the garage every few minutes.

Good choice. With that low of miles it's still not going to make a huge difference. They always say get the newest one you can afford though. I hear 02/03's are probably the best though.

I got my 99 last year with 48k for $18.5g. So the price on the 00 was a little high to me but I did it private party. But on the AE 03 vert that's seems like a good deal.

Hope your boss likes the new ride. and hello to your boss if he is here. Welcome to the forums.

Tell him about the wave

Good choice on the AE. I love the 50th Anniversary Editions. That will be my next quest, if I ever decide to sell my 01 Magnetic Red Coupe. It's as close to perfect as you can find and runs fantastic. Welcome to the best place in the world to find out anything you ever want to know about the Vette.
