you guys are funny! im a dog lover too but really, who gives a **** about the dog. this is a car forum not a dog lover forum. he came here to ask about his car. i cant believe you guys are giving him schlack because he didnt express any remorse about the dog in his op.
*edit* by the way did any of you notice the sad face in the thread titile?
Watch we're your driving OP. If I saw you run my dog down and drive off you'd have a world more to worry about than a couple of scuff marks.
run the dog down? are you suggesting he went off roading to "run it down"? the owner should keep the damn dog in the yard. if someone runs over my french bulldog in the street i would feel responsible for the damage done to the car. dogs dont belong in the street!!!! now if he drove his car on my lawn to "run her down" then i would be sending him to the hospital.
so...
did you get an estimate yet? it doesnt look to bad. they will sand/prep/paint the entire bumper. fortunatly i have three body shop connections and can get it doe on the side for cash. i bet it wouldnt cost me more than 200.00 for that job.
As a animal lover I'm sorry for the dog. But as most driving schools will tell you, you did the right thing. Do not swerve to miss a dog. The results of a swerve will, most of the time, be worse.
Damage doesn't look too bad, but the bumper needs to come off for a good evaluation. Lots of stuff under there.
Good luck with the repairs. And I agree with the other guys who have said it might be time for a special front end ... Tigershark?
Damage looks just like when you run into a solid object square on. whatever it was it must have been a light color looking at the center of the bumper and upper drivers corner of the license opening.
actually that mark on the very front of the bumper looks like previous damage caused by bumping something lightly like the front wall of the garage. my car had this when I first bought it too, just light scratches which show up as a lighter version of the car's paint color. no clue about the other one. looks like no structural damage just costmetic, but there could be more damage undernieth.
I also echo the calls for calm, quit harping on this guy for not reporting the dog's state. I don't see how it could have survived. I'm sure he wasn't hunting it down and ramming it on purpose, it was an accident. the dog is gone and nothing can be done about that, the vette on the other hand can be fixed and that's why he came here. the other victim can't be helped by us or anyone else.

From his post it seems like he drove the thing over and just kept going......maybe not, but that is not cool.
Usually, when you hit an animal it is covered under the comprehensive portion of your insurance policy. Check with your company.
Sorry for your misfortune.
X2
Just got my car back from the body shop this week. I cracked and scratched my front bumper cover taking a bad angle into a tight parking area at my work. Cost me just the $250 deductible, but would have cost about $1080 out of pocket.
