My 98 convertible's hatch lid where top folds down suddenly has a problem staying up. It is very weak in up right position. A slight wind or even parked with front lower than rear makes it fall. Anything I can do to correct this problem. It has already cause some embarrassing moments, if you know what I mean.
I've never encountered that issue with my vert. Check the mechanism that "keeps it up", I'm sure that it just a worn out detail or perhaps the entire assembly.
Looking at the Shop Manual there are hinges either side of the tonneau and a strut which is mounted centrally. I assume your strut is giving up the ghost. The replacement is very straight forward if that's the problem. Unbolt the strut at both ends and fit a new one.

Any way you can take some pics and post so we can see exactly what were dealing with?
