Wow, this time of year is great. Snowmachine riding in the mountains in the morning and finally being able to take the Vette for a spin in the evening! Not sure that the rest of the year is worth it, but hey! Here is a shot I took this morning (April) above the pull out where I took the picture in my avatar (July 2006). Quite a difference a few of months can make
From: I tend to be leery of any guy who doesn't own a chainsaw or a handgun.
Where are the photos taken? (I have my guess. Just seeing if I'm right.) I used to live in Seward and Anchorage in the 70's. I put a bunch of miles on my '69 (which I bought in Anchorage and still have) driving between them. Those mountain roads were a bunch more fun than the flat congested ones here in Florida.

Very cool, Pete! Glad to hear you finally got the Vette out! I've been enjoying mine most of this past week and even went to the first weekly show at Sears. Four Vettes showed up (Dave/Margo, Rick/Kathy in their 40th anniv. coupe, Walt/Allison, and myself) and 6-8 street rods from the MSSRA showed up too.
I think I'll head up to Hatcher's Pass sometime and check it out! All this time up here and I've never been.

Yep, The road to the upper lot is clear. Saw quite a few motorcycles making the trek when I was heading back in to load up. I also saw a black C5 going up the road on my way back to town.
Awsome pics! I would like to make a road trip to Alaska one day and see what its like in person!
I wouldn't drive the Vette up the Alaskan Hwy unless they improved it from the way it was back in 1975. Back then it was gravel and tore your car up!!!

I've driven the Alaska Hwy 13 times since 2001, and EVERY year the highway has been much better than the year before. Finally, I believe 2006 was the first year I ever saw the entire route paved (as long as one avoids the Cassiar Hwy, which SUCKS!)
However: It's still a poor Vette road: It may be paved, but every mile is subject to construction upgrades, so next year a 10 mile stretch here and there could be tore up. Also... lots of frost heaves; rough road, potholes, and LOTS of gravel. The gravel comes from the wheels of construction equipment that constantly turns onto the highway from the gravel side roads. On those trips of mine, I've incurred four flats; two broken windshields, and three busted headlights. ANd of course, numerous rock chips and more squashed bugs than you'd ever want to see.
