Hi Rob,
yeah your not too far from me at all. And to really add spark to this thread, I went to the forever famous with the middle class families 'Walmart' yesterday. I got seven quarts of Mobil 1 5w-30w for 34.97! It usually cost me $45.99 at the local Pepboys. I mean how the heck can you beat that price? And I've been kinda old school for years about oil. I was raised with 10w-40w as your year round oil, but my best friend has been teaching me that things are WAY different these days. He was saying what was posted here that the oil and engines made today are totally different from in the sixties & seventies. That the lighter oil flows faster and the suface of the journals and bearing material is so much better that all you need is a fine smooth film of oil under pressure to give excellant oil protection. And I got my wifes oil changed the other day, She has a 2007 Jeep compass with the 2.8 l V6 and the oil recommended, in fact the only oil listed for this car is a top grade SEA 5w-20w, any time of year in any part of the country ! So thanks to all of you. I've learned my lesson and I'll believe the owners manual and all of you kind folks to guide me. Thank you !

The chart in your owners manual will show you what outside temp ranges are appropriate for each viscosity of oil. Just follow that and you should be OK. For me, 5W30 is the choice.
