[Z06] Steering column LOCKED!

Steering column LOCKED!
Anyone have any idea why my steering column is locked and won't realease with the key inside , even with the car running,??? the dash reads Service Steering Column. How do i service the steering column????

mine locked up a few times, the shake back and forth released it. then it locked up for what seemed good.
finally I had a fit of rage and yanked the crap out of the wheel till the columb lock gave up, then I installed the bypass.
