I replaced my oil sensor a few months ago and it lasted about a month then my sensor was pegged again. I have not changed it out again yet but the other day my sensor started going from pegged to zero and back to pegged again. It is getting worse. I have check the oil level and it is fine. When it starts going down if I let off the gas it goes stops and goes back to pegged or sometimes it bounces back and forth.
Has anyone had this happen to them? I am not sure if it is the oil sensor or do I have a bigger problem..
I would still bet you have another bad sensor. I don't think the engine is capable of actual oil pressure fluctuations as drastic as you are seeing; and if it pegs at all then I really suspect the OPS. Generally they do stay pegged, but yours might be partially broken or something... still trying to work but not quite cutting it. If your oil pressure was really 80psi (or 130psi per the DIC) I think you'd be seeing other problems.
Some people on here have had their sensors only last a week; one guy had his break only one day later. These new sensors are garbage.
I would change out the sensor again, especially if you're seeing absolutely nothing else amiss.
Prolly just the sensor malfunctioning again, or a short in the wires going to it. I would bet it is the sensor though. I knew a guy that changed his and went 4 miles and it blew it again.
The sensor had already gone bad and pegged a month or more ago I had not replaced it yet but I have never seen it fluctuate like this. Could the oil pump or something be going bad????
Mine is pegged but goes from pegged to 0 and back again.
I would change the sensor again before looking further as these are notorious for going bad. I wouldn't worry until you get the same readings with a brand new sensor.

Hey Jason, allow me to slightly partake of your quote.
"I know you have another bad sensor. Your engine is not capable of actual oil pressure fluctuations as drastic as you are seeing without shaking itself out of the engine bay; and if it pegs at all then I know it's just another bad OPS. Generally they can go both ways, and yours is doing the same thing that so many others have done after being replaced. If your oil pressure was really 80psi (or 130psi per the DIC) it would blow the oil filter off the engine.

I would do the relocation mod so that WHEN the next one goes south, it's just a 10 minute fix.
Thank you Jason, we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

I think it speaks volumes for where their made. I think most of the guys have ended up with OPS stamped with "made in Mexico".
Agreed... the one I put in last week (GM replacement as well) was stamped "Made in Mexico". ANd... the one that came out was "Made in Mexico." So I believe my new one should last until roughly next Thursday at 3pm. I left my tools for this job out on the workbench.

Quick way to tell if the sensor is bad is to turn the key to the run position without starting it. Then if the needle goes to the pegged side, it's the sensor. I did the relocation just a few weeks ago and am very happy I did for next time.
I went through three different stinken OPS units last year, and they all came from GM, so this year it is stuck on 80 or 130 on my DIC . I have to change the sinken sensor again . Did I mention that one of them only lasted for a whole cruise around town after I got done installing the POS.
I just discovered why the call the Oil Presure Sending unit that. It is because it is a Piece Of $hit.
In conclusion the OPS=POS.

I know my sensor is bad but I have never heard of it bouncing from 80 to 0 and back to 80 again. Is there any way i may have a bad oil pump also?
Highly unlikely it's the pump. Mine did the same thing yours is doing. I replaced it and it works great. Like stated before, it's probably the sensor. That is where I would start.
A friend of mine had his go bad and got a super deal from NAPA. It lasted about 2 months and popped on him again. He called the NAPA store and they got him another one free. NAPA has pretty good prices on sensors for the C5's and they stand behind their products.
