Hey, us "old timers" use our heads!!!......I recall a year or so ago I had a reserve officer riding with me....We were dispatched to a disturbance outside a local bar....there were about 6 young males involved in the fracas...I ran all the parties thru the CCIC/NCIC computer for wants and warrants....The dispatcher (my wife BTW) is trained to say "are you clear for traffic 10-99 times 1" if one of the subjects is wanted....When she said that I walked over to one fellow and handcuffed him before he really knew what was going on.....The reserve officer looked at me with a puzzled look on his face, as I hadnt even yet learned which of the six had the warrant.....I then tell dispatch to go ahead with her traffic....That's when she airs the warrant info (a felony no-bond warrant BTW) and it was on the subject that I had handcuffed...I loaded the badguy in my car, and finished the contact with the other five.....The reserve officer asked "How in the hell did you know he was the one with the warrant?"....I replied..."I really didnt, I had a gut feeling it was him, but mainly I just knew he was the only would I would have a hard time catching if he decided to run when he heard dispatch air the warrant"...
We have since gone to earpieces which dont allow anyone within earshot to hear our radio traffic..

Now I would have went a different route. I would have handcuffed the biggest one there, telling him that he was not under arrest and that I was doing this so he didn't accidentally get shot if something happened. The reason I pick the biggest guy is because he is usually the one I don't want to have to fight!

Give me the biggest guy out there and I'll have him on the ground in a heartbeat....Thanks to my friend Mr Taser
Well hell...If youd fill out yer profile we'd know if you were an old timer or not....I do like your squad though...I LOATHE my front wheel drive Impala...I smack my head damn near every time I get in it...tiny back seat...makes delivering those heavy boys a real CHORE!!!......It's gutless compared to my old V8 powered, rear wheel drive Crown Vic and Caprice ("scud mobile"....LOVED that SCUD!!!)....But then I think back to my first squad...a Dodge Diplomat...what a TURD.....but we were lucky compared to the sheriffs office back then...they were driving 6 cylinder Ford Fairmonts!!!
Updated the profile. I guess a lot of cruisers get nick names..."The Battle Wagon" is mine, given to it by the old timer on my shift.

Ah Dan, he's still just a young buck. Probably still leaps building in a single bound! Not like us old Jedi warriors, who just move the building to the side!
