Default engine light comes on but no codes

driving back home from the store, my engine light comes on says to service my tc and also says reduced engine power. service tc and abs do come on every so often but never has the engine light also come on or reduce engine light come on for that reason. i could not feel the reduction of the engine power like i have before when my car had overheated from a broken water pump. so i stopped off at a gas station, turned car off then on again, drove home fine with no service tc or reduction of engine power, but engine light still on. checked the codes and there were no current codes. planning on a trip to la this weekend and dont want to get stuck, what should i check or do????? thanks

Whats the state of your battery? Is it original? Dying batteries can cause wierd electrical glitches.

You may have an active handling issue but it shouldn't cause the check engine light to come on.

I'd clear the codes and see if any return. Even if its only temporary the one thats causing the problem may show up as a "recent H" if you follow my drift.

Might check your gas cap. I've had that happen before...

You said no "Current Codes" what about historical? A current code cause might appear then change to historical within seconds.

Same thing happened to me although it ws right after I had a set of headers installed but exact same thing. Check engine light came on, no loss of power, no code. In my case the tuner had to reprogram the oxy sensor and it was fine. So I'm thinking that perhaps in your case it could just be a bad oxy sensor.

go check using an obdII.The H codes you cannot clear but its something you shouldn't be worried about.I am currently experiencing the same problem you are and its a p1013 code, which is some high electrical input at the MAF, whatever that means. It shows up on the obdII but not onboard.

I know you can clear the "H" history codes by simply pushing and holding the reset on each group. You might need to do this to clear things out and get a fresh look at things but write them all down first.

Especially if you go through another ignition cycle. What was a C is now an H.
