I was just wondering what kind of power you need to get any usable acceleration in 6th? what about shorter rear gearing? how much effect on 6th accel if I drop to a 3.73
is 410-430 whp enough to see higher top end?
obviously noone hits their top end on any regular basis unless they are crazy. I've only topped most my cars out once or twice. Its just nice to know that 171 isn't the absoulute top end.
It should give you more usable acceleration with lowering the gear ratio. I would never use 6th, as I have been over 172 in the middle of 5th and that was plenty fast for me.
You will break 6th if you throw any real power at it.
If you're going for crazy top end you need to gear the other way. Maybe a 3.23 gear and pull 5th. That's the easy way without getting a different tranny 6th gear ratio setup.

I've got 425 rwhp and 6th works just fine for general cruising acceleration on the highway. I just gently push on the pedal and away it goes. You would of course down shift to 3rd if you wanted some real aceleration :o)

I red line at 167 in 5th gear! I was passed by an older 300Z this morning at 165 mph.... a bit humbling. I wonder if the previous owner changed rear ends?
6th gear is intended for cruising and good gas mileage. Do not plan on adjusting gearing to eliminate its intent. You have 5 gears for performance and one for cruising. If you don't want to cruise than don't use 6th.

Don't know.. Although I have 540rwhp, which might have something to do with it.
