Road Gator. I was headed down to the Corvette Museum for the C5/C6 Bash 2 Wednesdays ago (April 23rd). A fellow Corvette Club of Michigan member in his 2007 Black Z06 was following me. Then out of the darkness on I-65 90 miles north of the Museum comes flying a 5 foot long GATOR, headed straight for my 1999 C5 front end. The truck in front of me at the time either kicked it up of lost its recap. Wham, with out a chance to react it took out my front bumper, right fender, and cracked the hood, then the gator gets thrown under the car and my rear tire hits it and launches in the air again, and yes straight at the Z06 following me. It proceeds to take out the front spoiler, fog lamp, and scuffed the front bumper to where it need to be repainted. After a police report we were able to continue on. About 5 minutes down the road the air was forced though the cracks in the fender and the fender started disintegrating and the shrapnel was headed right at the Z06. Good thing the Z06 driver had auto cross experience and he was able to avoid the flying pieces of fiberglass. He then ended up taking overall 1st place at the Museums C5/C6 bash auto cross later that weekend. And a special thanks to 3B automotive for a flawless repair in 5 days. I ended up home in one piece last Wednesday. By the way I had the car repainted at 3B in January so the paint matches perfect. See you at the Cruise In on May 22nd. Sorry I don't know how to attach pictures but if you where at the Bash you may know me from the large Band-Aid applied to the fender.
The bumper and turn signal assembly where wasted and the hood was cracked to. Its been fixed $2800. Since the gator was flying thru the air it was covered under comprehencive $100 deductable, if it was lying in the road and I hit it, it would have been a collision claim at $1000 deductable.
