The 4.00 bore offers more potential and the C6 has a nicer ride/interior for a DD. However, I chose a C5Z over a C6 because it is a no-nonsense, stripped-down, unique race-car for the street. Shop around and drive both in all conditions, like I did, and see which suits your needs.
For a daily driver, the C6 would be more friendly, and it has the cubic inch advantage. The disadvantage is you could have a hella fast C5 for the same coin.
I love the FRC body style and do not daily drive mine, so the C5 Z06 was a no-brainer for me. Plus, C6s don't come in Electron Blue.
well, you are on the c5z forum, so most guys will tell you the c5z because they havent had a c6. But in actual fact, the c5z is way more enjoyable if you like the raw, race car feeling. I had a c6 vert, and really found it boring. By the way, when I looked around at the interior of my c6, I didnt really find it better than the c5z. I actually find it a little more roomy in the c5z. I sold the c6, and purchased a 04c5z commemorative, and then a c6z. Im selling the c6z to buy a gtr. I want to try that out. But, im keeping the commemorative. Car is just sweet, plain and simple.
IMO, regular or base model Vettes never really impressed me. Before I joined the Vette world I looked at these as just another Vette. Although driving any Vette is a sort of status symbol, it was the Z06 or ZR1 models that really got my attention. I could drive around for 30 minutes and spot a number of Vettes, but very rarely are these a Z06 model. Probably a little different if you lived in a big city though.
But for the price, c5z ftw. I love the rough ride, and I love the loudness, and I love the ultra responsive feeling of the steering, And just personal preference, I could never own a Non-Z06
That pretty much sums it up for me. I also test drove a c6z, but I love the raw feeling of the c5z.
I have had my C5Z (2 of them) since Sep 02. I really like the car. Unlike most, I don't care for the pop up headlights. I think for what you are going to pay, I would get a C5Z, then save up for C6Z or newer Z06. It is likely your return will be higher on the C5Z.
I've driven both and to me the C5Z is the winner hands down. The C6 is more of A regular car that has power. The C5Z is A sports car that out breaks, handles, and accelerates the C6 and is known as A world beater
Think of it like this
- If you have a ***** get the C5Z
- If you have a vagina get the C6
- If you're a transvestite, well, go buy a Prius
Wow, that's pretty harsh man. I wouldn't say any corvette is a chick's car. With the LS3 the C6 is a serious contender with the C5Z, especially when they get rid of the torque management crap.
Here's my $0.02 and I've been around here for a long time and heavily researched C6s.
'08 LS3 C6 > C5Z > '05-'07 LS2 C6
The LS2 C6s dnyo less than LS6s as they have a small '01Zish cam and a heavy clutch assembly. They respond very well to a cam and manifold swap.
The LS3 is just nasty... they make 410 rwhp with an intake and a tune, 430+ with headers and 480+ with a cam and bolt-ons.
I'm very deep into my mod project and have had some hiccups... there are days that I wish I had a shiney new JSB '08 with a warranty, some wheels, some mufflers and just drive. But everytime I see pics of a shiney yellow C5Z I keep my eyes on the prize... it's a very unique car.

Um, I'm not sure that I would let my wife near the comment about corvette and chick car... I think the reaction would be, uh, explosive. Kinda like when I had a friend's wife tell me, (in the presence of my then fiancee) that I should buy my vette before we got married otherwise I would never get one. He and I still laugh about the rest of the conversation...
I like the body style of both C5 and C6, almost (don't shoot) C6 better. I do have the advantage though of having a wife with opinions. A quote from the other day, "since we have a Z, I don't think we could ever go back."

You're lying to yourself if you think you could get an 08 and leave it stock
