Front license plate frames/covers - what do you run?
I have not put a front plate on my car (although it is needed in MN), but feel pretty vulnerable everytime I see a cop. What options are people with front plates running (covers with openings, alternative positions, clear, clear with body color surround etc, etc). Not sure yet if I will actually fit one, but it would be good to see how others have approached this without using the nasty black GM frame.
Go to a Chevy dealer and get one of those black ugly frames for about 25 dollars, have it painted to match your color, then look at midamerica and get a snap in clear cover for about 20 dollars, put em together and on the vehicle, fits nice and looks nice and follows the nose contours
You can have a hideaway license, cut an opening in the stock cover and just have your numbers or name exposed, filler plate black or painted same as car, license bent and wrapped onto center skirt under bumper. Here the city cops can't bother with the time and paper work but the highway cops write tickets and the fine is $170 or so ! I have my personal vanity plate on and then covered with a clear contoured bubble.Just like stock but clear. But,when washed or in rain it must be removed and wiped inside.Kinda a hasssle but I like the fact it keeps the shape of the nose perfectly.
I have a hide away plate holder. Folds down and slides back under the bumper. It attaches under the front bumper and houses the front plate. I always drive with it tucked away and if I do run into "ociffer Jones" I say I forgot to flip it up after the last car show. They are about $30.00. I will take a pic of it later and post.

I had a "hide-away" cover on my '03 Z -- the original filler panel. I removed the screws at the bottom that hold it in, installed the plate, and then put the screws back in but not all the way. I then cut slits in the bottom of the filler panel just wide enough to slip over the shank of the screws. Put the top of the panel in the slot, push up on the bottom and snap the panel in over the screws, and presto! Hidden license plate. Want to display the plate? Panel snaps right out. Hide the plate? Panel snaps right in.
And don't worry about it falling out. I ran the car on many tracks with the panel in, and it never went anywhere. Held tight right where it is, even at 160 mph.
p.s. And the best part of this mod is the price. LOL
that plate hooked on lower spoiler would very likely get you a ticket in Texas and judge would side with law enforcement....covers or frames that cover state name or numbers illegal. Texas Law says plate must be visible from front and that is a subjective call, some get by with it on visor or dash, mostly depends on LEO. Old pick-um-ups seem to have no problem on dash but vettes better lookout for troopers. I just run the ugly plate and don't worry about it.

I run a front plate with the clear contoured cover, problem is now the cover is illegal here too! We just had a local speed shop open house and a LEO stopped by to hand out a dozen "no front plate" tickets!
I have both the plates on my car they just happen to be stacked on each other on the back. I'll pay the ticket if I get one Im not putting the front plate on.
If you install your front plate and take your plate cover(stock) you can mount it, I just leave the top two screws a few turns loose, push the cover up under the screws and pull it back down into place. Do not tighten the screws, this allows you to pull it off quickly to show the officer that the front plate is indeed mounted but you"forgot" to take the cover off. If you are not driving like an ***, and are courteous most officers will give you a break. This method has been tested numerous times deep into tripple digits at watkins glen, and has also been spin tested there.
