Default Dexcool or alternanative

I'm looking for opinions on coolant. In the past I have never really worried about which coolant I put into my vehicles. I'm getting ready to change the coolant in the Vette and am wondering if using factory recomended Dexcool is the only way to go.(I don't feel like making a special trip to the stealership) Any thoughts? Thanks.

Dexcool and distilled water, it's what I use. Changed it twice on my 1998 with 112,000 miles - no problems.

You can get dexcool from other places, rather than the stealership.

But yes, I stick with the dexcool.

That's pretty scary stuff, Trickflow! I've had no trouble with mine, but I'm at my 5 years, and need to change my coolant any time now, so I'm wondering if there'd be anything wrong with switching to something else. Anybody done that?

OK, now I've done some reading too, and come up with this:

http://www.girardgibbs.com/dexcool.html
http://www.getahelmet.com/jeeps/maint/dexcool/

It looks like our LS1's are not involved with this problem, especially if the coolant hasn't been run low for 20,000 or more miles. Just make sure to use distilled water, keep it full, and have fun......

When I changed my coolant, I replaced it with Dexcool. Not had any problems with it.
