Differences in 3.42 differential?
Will a 3.42 gear out of a manual C5 go into an automatic? I heard of some error codes caused by this combination.

Yes you can use 3.42's in an A4, that's what I run. You just have to make the necessary changes to the program so your car will shift properly.

Yes! I do as well!
But you will need to use a handheld tuner or your local tuner will need to make changes to the PCM
Here are the differences in the RPM's:

don't forget to transfer the
seal plate from your A4 carrier:
to the manual carrier.

I swapped the 3.42 out of my M6 C5 into my wife's A4. I reprogrammed the tranny pressures and shift points using EFI Live.

I bought new pieces from the dealer to add to the diff rather than pulling the one's off her car. Here's the plate.
The output shaft seal.
The large O-ring that seals the plate itself.
The plate installed.

I just re-used the trans plate with new seals. Have not had a problem with it.
