I'm surprised there are so many "kids will be kids" responses and advising you to take it easy on him. No way Your nephew plain and simple stole your car, did costly damage and a simple "I'm sorry" is not enough. He needs a lesson and apparently his mom isn't willing to lay down the law so Uncle Bobby has to. He's old enough to know better, but with no repercussion for past misdeeds, apparently he's a slow learner. Make him pay and do not refund it at a later time.

I was wondering did he "accidentally" run into the water or was it on purpose? After seeing the post about his past, I was curious on his reasoning he went into the water.

Well, I am at work and the Tow Company called (Ronnie from Avenger Towing) and its on the way to Vette Drs.

I guess they will look and call me today with some kind of assessment of the damage.

I have been leaning towards making him pay and have him learn a lesson.

I agree he needs to learn one. My sister protects him way too much.

Plus I thought about this.....I have twin 18 year old boys and if they EVER did this to anyone THEY WOULD BE PAYING, and my kids are good kids. (thank God)

Long story REALLY short, that's how I got my 402. Insurance dropped off a big check to cover everything minus my deductible and next thing you know I had a 402.

DON'T feel weird taking his cash, especially if he has it !! He didn't feel weird taking your car without permission. Take it, will be a good lesson learned

Do him a favor. Take the money. He is going to have a miserable life and wind up paying a lot more if he isn't stopped now. Good luck hope it is just some electrical gremlins.

I am ready for whatever they tell me.

Just called Vette Doctors and spoke with Carmine. The engine is done for.

The cash difference between an LS1 and an LS6 is minimal (its all relative...no pun intended) I am having my nephew pay for a replacement LS1 and I am paying everything else.

I have ok'd the installation of an LS6 along with headers and intake. I asked Carmine, after telling him my driving habits, if there was anything else he could suggest that I could add for additional power and still have a reliable vehicle.

He mentioned a cam. Before I ok anything else I am asking you guys here on the forum what you would do if you were in my shoes. The car is driven occasionally and I never race it. I like to get on it once in a while like we all do.

I appreciate power as much as the next gut but I don't want a crazy race car.

So let me hear your ideas please.

Sorry to hear about the engine. Depending on which one you get, a cam is a good, mild performance upgrade. I'd also look at a Vararam (or something similar), some headers, and the exhaust.

Now that your car is no longer "numbers matching", isn't there somewhat of a "diminished value" that junior should also have to take into consideration? THAT should just about cover the LS6 upgrade....

^^First off sorry to hear about your car. I think you are taking it very well all things considered.

I think the best thing you can do for your nephew is to make him pay for the damages he did. As others have said, he needs to learn that his bad acts have consequences. Perhaps if his mother had not protected him before he might have learned his lesson and this unfortunate event may not have occurred.

I hope he develops a sense of responsibility and control before he does something that can't be fixed.

In terms of cams, you could put in a bigger stick with hurting the driveability of the car. I would talk to the vette doctors about what you want and they can help you make the decision. The key with these cars is in the tune. With a good tune you can have a pretty strong motor that is quite streetable.

Good luck with your car and post up pics ansd results when it is done.

So having spoke with your nephew; what exactly did he drive through and what was the depth?

Very unfortunate for you, but a lesson learned is a valuable part of growing up. That said this whole situation just sucks. Good luck with your new motor, at least you have a new bike to ride in the downtime

Now that you know you need a new engine, I would also ask about the price difference of going to a larger engine. The LS6 is a good upgrade, but from what I have read you can get a 402, or 427 for around the same price as a new crate LS6. No substitute for cubic inches.

Good luck with the repairs either way!

Well just got back from Vette Doctors. Nice clean, well lit shop. Awesome cars there. Couple of C6's getting turbos!!!

Well I decided on an LS6, mild cam, headers and we are keeping the same intake, a Vararam. I already had the Z06 exhaust, sway bars and have Bilstien shocks. The car should put out more horsepower than I had. Somewhere about 450 HP.

I decided to pay the amount above the cost of the LS1 replacement.

Soooo the way I see it is this:

Nephew learns a hard lesson and hopefully learns to respect property of others.

I get an opportunity to do an upgrade that I may never have had before.

My sister is actually grateful for my decision. She obviously needs help handling him.

Any other suggestions while the motor is out? What would you guys do?
