Default Front air dam question

So one of the two bolts that hold the centre air dam in place fell out on Sunday. It was really cool because I didn't see it and managed to drive over it and bust it up I am totally confident I can bend it back into shape and re-attach it. I looked into replacing it and the quote is $150 Canadian-parts only. Now to the good news. My wife and I are driving to San Fran leaving this Saturday. I am confident I can buy this peice for less than half in the US (based on Gene's sale price) but I would obviously have to pick it up on the trip.
Here are my questions:

1 is it okay to drive the car without this piece for a week? Is it too hot in California to do this?

2 if yes, can you suggest a dealer in San Fran to pick this up at? I would be looking for a dealer in the North part of San Fran so I could pick it up on the way into the city.

3 best I can tell, this piece goes on with 2 bolts and I think I should be able to put it on the car in any parking lot. Am I right?

Let me know what you think!!
Thanks
Rob

IMO, if you can put it back to its original form and attach, why get a new one? If a new piece is the avenue you wish to travel, how about ordering and having it shipped to your hotel?

Go to this site (site supporting vendor ELITE ENGINEERING USA) and see what's involved. While the PDF link is to installing one of their screens, it also shows in detail how to attach the middle air damn section. You can click on some of the images to enlarge them...

Basically, it's two bolts and inserting the backside of the air damn correctly into the two aluminum extruded brackets. Don't install the air damn upside down as some owners have done.

Thanks guys...maybe I will just bend it back into shape.

Any other thoughts on driving without one for the first part of my trip?

from what I've heard, without that air dam the car tends to overheat but I'm not 100 % positive,

but why chance it?

overheating is what I am worried about. I am just thinking, I'd rather not have to fix the broken one if I don't need too.

You should get an air dam back on for sure, but in your situation, take it out on the highway near you and see if cruising at 70 mph will make it run warm. You have a gauge and a DIC reading to monitor it.

If it doesn't get warm and you can't straighten the old one, maybe you can safely get State side to replace it.

You may need to drive up on some 2x8s or a curb to have room to work under there. Can be done. Watch for over heating, should be OK
Good luck

thanks everyone!! I will try to fix the old one and if it is kind of crappy, I will pick one up once I cross the border. Prices of parts are retarded in Canada still

When I brought home my BLACK 2000 FRC Tiger Shark it didn't have the front spoiler. When they installed the Tiger Shark Front Fascia and Chin Spoiler they just never installed the center section. On the way home from Atlanta, GA the water temperature readings were between 218 - 238 degrees with the AC running (I ran the AC because I was trying to run both electric fans to keep it cool.) It didn't over heat but scared me never the less. I fixed it right away!
