Each time I get into the Z06 and start it up, it is rewarding, but that's because it is a chore. It is like putting on boots and lacing it up each time you want to go for a jog. The nsx feels more like putting on a light pair of track shoes.
Just as a comparison - when I got back into the Z06 I noticed how numb the steering and chassis felt - it was like I was sculpting clay with mittens on.
I read an interesting comparison between the Z06 and the NSX once. Kind of amusing.
I'll say this about the BMW track crowd where I am: They are the second hardest living bunch there. First place goes the the mx5/Miata racers (best after track party, best tunes, best booze), but the BMW drivers have this ability to party all night and come to the track the next day and do well. Almost as well as corvette drivers anyhow.
The BMW track folks are generally very enthusiastic, very brand loyal and very competent. I notice more baseless attitude from the street bimmer scene, but I don't hang with them as much.
There are some really fast BMWs out there, but unless stripped to race configuration, I don't know many of them that can hang with a C5Z, even stock.
Is it a convertible? Unless it a vert, then is no where near 65+K. Or are you referring to the price of the car plus mods he added?
It's a good kill, but remember one thing, your car is fairly modded and if you add the original cost of the z (50k) plus your mods, your the one thats most likely driving the 65k + car.

i went and looked at a coupe with the carbon roof and the sticker was 65k plus change.
Isn't it kinda apples to oranges matching an M3 to a Z06? I mean shouldn't a base coupe/vert Vette be matched up to the M3 and a Z06 matched up with an M5? It's like Rocky Balboa fighting Glass Joe or Soda Popinski.

No it's not. The 01 C5 Z06 is pretty comparable to the new E92 M3. The C5 Z has 385 hp and 385 ft and the new M3 has 414 hp I believe and 295 ft. The new M3's are trapping around 113mph so it's a pretty quick car and would certainly beat a stock C5 Coupe. My money would still be on the 01 Z due to weight and arodynamics. I would say the M5 is more comparabe to say a Caddy CTS-V.
LOL, you're right, run what you brung. Just saying it's a different kind of car. It's a luxury GT car with back seats where the Z is all business sports car.
yeah, not quite apples to apples here. the m3 is an awesome car, and in many ways much more advanced and better engineered than the corvette. But few cars are faster than corvettes in a straight line or even on twisties--that's not all a car is about.
The joy of the M3 clearly does not come from having incredible speed, but about the whole experience. of course, corvettes have their own charms too!
well ive seen many car magz compare the M3 with the Z meaning the older models C5 Z against E46 M3. I had bought an M3 over the C5 Z mainly because its not excellent at doing anything it just does everything good. Good daily driver extremely fun to drive but now im looking for a C5 Z and for the price i paid for the M3 i couldve easily bought a Z i cant tell you why i bought the M i guess after driving it i changed my mind. Now i only need a weekend car and the C5 Z06 is my 1st choice i cant wait.
