my local Chevron dealer has started adding 10% ethanol to their gas (all grades)...does anyone know if this will have any adverse effects on C5 engines??? i like Chevron with Techron, but i don't want to keep using it if there are going to be problems down the road....
TIA
None. Used it for years here in Northern VA. Just be sure and run some dry gas in your tank every few months to keep water from building up. You should do this anyway regardless of E-10 but I have heard E-10 has more propensity for moisture to accumulate in the fuel tank.
Southeast Wisconsin has had it for years and as far as I know there should be no side effects. I do however try to use a tier one gas when available. Around here that pretty much limits me to the few Shell stations we have.
Just found out that all the gas in Tulsa is E-10 (even the so called "top tier" brands) and they don't even tell you. So much for truth in advertising. It was on the news as an "investigative" report. Apparently it is to keep the cost down.
Car seems to run fine no issues but it would probably be better to have straight gasoline.
All cars have been compatible with 10% for a long time(probably between 15-20 years)If you have kept close tabs on your mileage you may notice a little(few %) lower mpg .You will have problems if you try E85 though!!
The only drawback I have seen from using e10 is that your mpg will go down. I think e-10 has less chemical energy per gallon then 100% gas (chemical folks please pardon my layman explaination).
There is no truth in advertising issue here. You should pay attention to the news. E-10 is required by EPA regulation to reduce emissions. It is used in place of MTBE the previous additive that decreased emissions but increased water pollution. This happened a couple of years ago. When they started using ethanol instead of MTBE this caused a shortage of ethanol which was one of the reasons the price of gasoline started climbing. Its also probably the main reason for the increase in the cost of corn Vs E85 which is not widely used.
