Default Homemade Jacking Puck Question.

Hey Guys (and gals),

Ive read several posts about making home made jacking pucks using used hockey pucks and eye bolts. I am thinking about making my own set but have one question. Is the purpose of the eye bolt in the center of the puck to go through the oblong hole at the jacking point so that the puck does not slip out of position, or are you buying eye bolts heavy enough and big enough so that it does not fit through the oblong hole, and the eye bolt is taking the weight of the car?

I know this may seem like a stupid question, and I am pretty sure I know what the answer is, but Id rather ask the stupid question then have a cracked panel.

Thanks,

The eye bolt should slide into the slot on the frame rail.

This way you can insert the assembly turn 1/4 turn and the jacking puck will remain in place while you place your floor jack.

Good luck with your diy project

Default Home Made Jacking Puck

Hi brntstauf,
I just did this a few months ago.I bought the screw eye-zinc bolts at lowes p/n #35226 qty: of 6 size 4 x 2-3/16" I used a 1/4" drill stopped about 1/4" from the bottom of the puck. Center punch the puck before you drill.I cut off about 1/8" off the tip of the eye bolt thread so it would not bulge out on the other side of the puck. That leaves you with a installed eye bolt height of 1-1/4" which allows you to insert & turn & lock the puck.I put them in a plastic bag & in the trunk. That way they are always with the car in case of an emergency. There you are neighbor have fun.Is it ever going to warm up? My 01 coupe is t/red also. Do you have the tu tone red int.?

Here's how one Vette owner made his jacking pucks.

Thanks for the additional info robsc501. To answer your question, no, my vette has the tan/black interior combo. I am also sick of this cool weather here in pa. Hope it warms up soon.

Some of these posts look like overkill to me. I used 1 puck per jack point. Two would not allow my jack under there. I screwed 2 flat head screws next to each other and left them out about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. insert them into the oval hole and rotate 1/4 turn to hold them in place. My cost = 0. Found pucks in the basement of an abandoned house my friend bought. Found screws in my junk box. Life is good.

I don't use any eye-bolts, just a hockey puck. Set it on my jack, line it up, done.
