Default Turning Auto Headlights Off

Is there any way to do this? I've already had to replace one headlight motor (which ran close to $500), so the less I can have these things going up and down the better. I park in the garage so everyday the headlights turn on when I start the car, but then go back down when I pull into the sun. Needless to say I'd prefer if that didn't happen. Any help would be appreciated.

The auto on can be disabled thru the option settings. Info in owners manual. As well as other settings such as auto lock, etc.

It's listed as Twilight Sentinel.

Default Options

OPTIONS
This button allows you to choose personal options that
may be available on your vehicle, depending on the
options your vehicle is equipped with. Some of these
functions work along with the remote keyless entry
transmitter.
When returning to the options menu, the first item of the
options list will always be displayed, not the one you
were last in when you changed buttons.
The following are the options listed under the
OPTIONS button:
Twilight (Optional in United States,
Standard in Canada)
Press the OPTIONS button until TWILIGHT-OFF
appears on the display, then use the RESET button to
page through the following selections:
• TWILIGHT – ON
• TWILIGHT – OFF
If you choose TWILIGHT – ON, press the OPTIONS
button again to display DELAY TIME 1 2 in the DIC.
Use the OPTIONS button to switch between delay time
1 and 2. You can increase the delay time by pressing
button 1 (1 FUEL) or decrease the time by pressing
button 2 (2 GAGES). Each bar is equal to 12 seconds.

I have a question about this as well, when I set my twilight on the headlights popped up. So I figured the only way the work is that the lights must stay up. They never seemed to go down. So I shut them off. Another words they will go down, then back up when they sense darkness?? If so I will give it another try

If you shut off the TS. Then you will need to put the light up and down by yourself all the time. They will never go up and down on their own again.

You can also click up the emergency brake one click and the TS will not go on either. That trick is for the Canadians.

BGDDYKWL, for your 2000, Twilight is described on pages 2-48 (Adobe p. 106 of 361) and 2-94 (152 of 361) of the Owner's Manual:
http://www.keystonestatecorvetteclub...00corvette.pdf

Berger, here's a 1997 Owner's manual, no mention of the twilight headlight control in here, looks like you've got manual control only. No great loss:
http://www.keystonestatecorvetteclub...97corvette.pdf

RTFB. Read the Book.

The A2 fuse which Kamil's referring to disables the DRLs not the headlights.

If you cant disable the auto headlights using the DIC as posted above you may have a Canadian spec car. Do you have a 300 kph speedometer? If so, thats the problem.

I set up my BCM so that the reset button will disable the auto headlamps. Using a Tech II, link up to the BCM, then when the message comes up asking if the car has the RPO option Z49, enter no. The Tech II will update the BCM to the US spec. Then the reset button on the DIC will disable the auto headlamps.

I increased the delay time, which did work in the sense that the lights take longer to go down, meaning they do so after several seconds once I shut the car off, rather than immediately when I turn the key. The problem is they still immediately flip up when I start the car in my garage, and that was what I was looking to avoid. I assume the only way to prevent this is simply turning Twilight OFF?

Yes, turn Twilight OFF in the DIC. This has to be one of THE worst
crap GM ever put on a car. Except maybe the Auto Wipers on a Caddy
when it rains!!

On Canadian cars, to defeat the Auto Headlight pop up feature, remove Micro Relay #44 under the toe board.

Then remember to turn the headlights on before a cop tells you to ... <G>
