A4 vs. MN6
She is lusting after my Z06.... but says if its not a convertible she is not owning it...

My buddy Joe has a M6 with 525 RWHP 3.42's and the same SuperCharger as me and I have to say that I like the A4 better and I have driven both very hard.
One sure benefit to the A4 is when you go to the 1/4 mile track they tend to be quicker

Thanks,Matt
Although these debates have been going on for years in the Forum, as long as it remains civil, it can be educational.
Firstly, the stock A4 is designed for the average driver who is looking for a ‘sporty’ but comfortable ride, so shift-points & torque management reflect this. Secondly, GM has to be concerned with a good MPG rating; therefore, the stock rear is 2.73. Thirdly, how would it look if the A4 Vette had better ¼ mile times then the MN6, which is why the “performance pkg” is only a 3.15 rear. If you replace the A4 rear with a 3.42 from the MN6, install a performance torque converter, and re-program GM’s soft shift-points with a slap-you-in-the-face shift, you have faster ¼ mile than the MN6.
As far as road racing, I have been running an A4 at the track for 5 years. The transmission has significantly less impact on lap times than brakes, tires, shocks, stabilizer bars, & driver experience. For that matter, engine oil & brake fluid impacts the performance more. I continually see cars with less horsepower out-perform higher HP cars.
The bottom line is select the tranny you prefer!

If it's a weekend driver or you're going to do a lot of mods a stick may be a better choice.
I converted from and auto to a six-speed, because my plans changed and I just turned the car in to a weekend driver, with lots of extras.
Drive both and figure out what you like best.
Other options are 3.73 are 4.10s but I think those are too steep for an A4. That however is just my humble opinion. Some other person who is more knowledgeable on this may post some better info.
