Default Windsheild washer not working

I did a search in this and the Tech forum, but found nothing.

My windshield washer pump is not activating. I have checked the fuse, but since it's the same one as the wipers, it's fine. The wipers work, but not the washer pump. It's not blocked or anything like that, there is simply no response from the pump.

I have done nothing under the hood since the last time it worked, so I didn't bump or unplug anthing.

Any advice??? Anyone know where the thread is that already addresses this topic, you know, the one I could not find but I know is out there?

Put a test light (12 volt) on the plug that plugs into the pump (not the plug that goes to the level sensor).

You might need someone to activate the pump while you hold the test leads on the two contacts ( + and -).
If the light lights up that means your pump was getting power and is most likely toast.

It is a easy fix that you can do yourself if it needs to be changed out.
Good luck and keep us posted.

No, not yet. I appreciate the advice, but it will be Saturday before I can get to it.

Okay, calling in the troops here...

I FINALLY got around to this super simple project. This is what I have, any advice would be helpful...

- Pulled connector, put multimeter in the holes, get 12VDC when I hit the button.

- Connected the new pump, hit button... nothing

- Left pump connector on pump, cut the wires about 8 inches down, and went straight to the battery... pump works!

- Spliced original wires back together, AND clipped meter on splice... pressed button... no pump, no voltage!

- Pulled connector out of pump, left meter on, pushed button... 12VDC!!!

- WTF??????? The pump works, the voltage is being sent, but but when its all connected, no voltage is sent?

Default Ground Loop!

After calling my brother (C5 owner / mechanic), he told me to try grounding the pump directly to ground, not to the ground wire from the switch... and BAM! Its started working correctly!!!

So he says it is a "ground loop" of some kind. Wierd, but at least I could return the pump. It is scary though.
