Default I got hit need help

Was sitting at a light when Bam I was hit in the rear so hard it threw me back. I got of the car to find two young guys in a old car saying that his brakes slipped and could we pull over so not to block traffic. I did but when I looked around they were leaving the down the street and I was blocked in. My problem now is my car all it has are just scratches across the rear bumper my question is could there be damage behind the bumper or are the scratches it and I got lucky ?

Pics would help but chances are no major damage. Sorry for your misfortune. I would be in jail for murder!

Sorry to hear that man....I'm originally from Liberal which is straight north of you, and we have a big problem with people driving with no insurance. I'm not trying to stereotype or anything but it seems like around that whole area there is a particular group of people that don't obey the law and leave the scene when given the chance.

I hope nothing major happened to your car behind the fascia.

DO NOT ASSUME there is little or no damage under the skin. Get a professionals opinion. It may be unseen, but it could contribute to more intense damage if you ever get butt-f##ed again.

Sorry you were in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Sorry to hear this. Glad your OK! Sounds like the car is OK too.

It just steams me when I hear of things like this. Some folks just can't accept the fact that they are accountable. Everything is the fault of someone or something else.

Sorry about your Vette. Sounds like you are OK.
Since the scratches need to likely get painted, you might as well have the body shop hear the whole story and then inspect things.
I got hit similarly with my Bravada SUV... It looked only superficial but there was damage to the metal bumper that supports the rear fascia and the sytem that absorbs the shock of the impact.

How hard was the hit? Chances are you could have major damage back there.

That totally sucks. As a personal rule, block traffic all you want until you get their plate number and insurance card (hope they have one), then pull over and swap the remaining info. Then, always call the police to take a report.

I always have a cell phone with a camera. First thing it take pics of the damage, the area and the other person's plate just in case they do drive off like these @sshats.

I had a similar accident recently that might be useful for comparison. Got rear ended on XMAS by a minivan whose driver wasn't paying attention to the naturally heavy FWY traffic. Below is a pic or two of the damage. I was surprised at how hard the hit was and how minimal the damage appeared to be, I thought for sure the back of my car was going to be mangled. Visually there were no dents, just scrapes and scratches to the rear bumper cover, and minor contact with the leftmost exhaust tip which pushed the left exhaust down about 3/4". Of course this was going to be taken care of by his insurance so I took it to the best body shop I could find and left it to them to decide what needed to be fixed.

$4K later they replaced and painted the entire rear bumper cover, as well as the bumper guards or whatever the things are called underneath the bumper cover. They also replaced both exhausts from the axle back as they determined it was necessary. Like someone else said, don't make assumptions just based on a visual external inspection.

To be honest though, if I were doing this on my own dime I would have just had the left exhaust adjusted since it wasn't bent or broken (the tip was literally just nicked), and had Corsa tips put on (which I did anyway), and I probably wouldn't have replaced the bumper cover when it appeared it could have just been repaired and repainted. Would have dropped the cost from about $4K to about $1500. But like I said, it wasn't my dime or my call, so no complaints from me, aside from the fact that I had a screwed up car for 6 weeks and my XMAS was ruined .

It's not that I would have been cutting corners, the body shop IMO was doing more work and replacing more parts than they needed to just so they could make more money off of it. The bill showed two replacement exhausts at about $670 each side for the muffler back. That's HIGHER than MSRP, and I've found those same parts for only about $350ish online at GMPartsDirect.com. The body shops don't just make money off their labor, they make money off the parts too because they charge retail or higher and don't pay anywhere near that, and sometimes don't even use genuine parts when they claim they are.

I would get an estimate from a really good body shop, as well as one from a less expensive shop for comparison purposes. If you have a shop or somebody that you really trust, even better. You should have it done right, but that doesn't necessarily mean you should take it to the place with the highest estimate.

Anyway, just my personal story from my recent similar experience. That really sucks that the guy got away, man I wouldn't have taken my eye off of him for a second if we were moving our cars. Good luck with your repairs!

I hope you called the police and made a report, If I were you I would turn it into the insurance co and get it fixed, That is why we pay for insurance and it will be done right.
Just my 2 cents.

Was parked in a hotel parking lot and had a hit and run. It didn't do anything more than push the facia in untio the clear coat cracked on the top.
Took it in and the shop stripped it off to check for damage. My RR inside light was cracked at the base where the bulb goes in and it had to be replaced. Total for that and repaint (to match ) was 678.20. Don't think that a few scratches is nothing. have a professional check it out.
