Just for fun, here is my mileage test.We all know we don't own a Vette for the Gas Mileage, but it was fun( slow fun) to see how much I could get.
I have a stock 02Z,with Vararam as my only perf mod.My ride has 54k miles and the usual tune-up stuff is fairly new.
1:I drove the legal speed-limit everywhere I went.Used the CC whenever possible.Tires @ 30 psi.
2:My shift points were at 3k and I skipped 5th by doing the 4 to 6 shift.
3: When approaching a stop light,I would put it in neutral.
4: A/C Off.
It was slow fun and I hate driving so slow,BUT I averaged 34.3 MPG between fillups.
Hell no,.....I ain't ordering a Prius!!!!

WOW 34mpg. It always amazes me when people think a corvette gets about the same gas millage as a big SUV.
A month ago I took a trip out of town, all highway, about 180 miles round trip. I averaged 27.4. I was pretty surprised considering it has 410 gears and a big cam.
W O W, thats pretty good for a Z. My 03 a4 got around 23ish combined and MAYBE 28, 29 when on the interstate. I know apriliacati has already asked but i gotta know to, is this your math or from the car?
The interstate I drive is I77 in SC/NC. 95% of my miles is interstate driving. The Speed Limit on I77 is mostly 60 & some spots 65.
This ( in part) proves my theory that much of the mileage cars get is the driver & how you drive.I hate driving so damn slow, but it was a fun experiment.
Went to the Vettes in the Valley show in Maggie Valley May 23-26 with our club from Wilson , NC. On the trip back we filled up and drove 328 miles back to Wilson. Filled up again and took 10.02 gallons. I'll take 405 HP along with 32 MPG anytime.

Dayum!! Those are great numbers to be getting. I thought I was doing good in mine. I have been averaging around 25.2 MPG since I got the car. Each tank I reset the computer and it says I have been averaging around 26.6 MPG. The very best I have been able to get out of mine is 26.8 MPG. I drive 31 miles each way to work and most of it is country roads at around 60 MPH. I have 0 performance mods.
Last week I started figuring out, what's the BEST mileage I could get around town? There aren't any freeways where I live... only two highways, and then only if you are leaving town. So I'm stuck to surface streets 99% of the time.
After three days and 100 miles of this, I was maintaining 22.6 mpg per the DIC.
I had to keep the rpm's abysmally low... shifted at 1800-2000 most times... very easy acceleration.
After three days, I said "eff it, this is a corvette and I'm gonna drive it like one".
I think they're known to be less accurate with in-town driving, and they're better with constant highway driving. Mine is usually about 1 mpg higher than what I get when I do the math upon filling up.

Two hours later my average mpg was down to 15.4!
Agreed! I am 21 and have only had mine for two months. I rarely reset the DIC and I average around 14.5. I could be getting much better but I enjoy it and hence that is reflected in the MPG. There are times when I am just cruising around town and it's pointless to shift above 2k but the majority of the time I get into it as much as I can.
I'm also 21 - had mine for a year. I live in Kansas and picked the car up from Palm Beach, FL. Drove back on 4 tanks and still had a quarter tank when I pulled into my driveway. Something like 1,900 miles.
I do a considerable amount of highway driving. At 1,200 feet above sea level with only a CAI and Borla Exhaust (plus dyno tune), I average 28-30 all day long on the highway. In town provided I accelerate conservatively and drive rationally, I see 22-24.
I find it comical my father just picked up a new Toyota Corolla for his daily drive to and from work. He gets 33 on the highway and 25 in town... very negligible difference from what I see in my 450+hp beast. How much do Corollas make... 130? 140? The only downside on my part is at the pump - 16 gallons of 91 octane = almost $70 bucks right now.
FWIW, I thought I would comment on putting it in neutral and coasting to a stop.
For those of you who have ever had a wideband on the vehicle, you will know that when you are in gear and let off the gas, the wideband goes all the way lean. This is because when you are coasting in gear and applying 0 throttle, the injectors actually shut off.
So what this means is that coasting in neutral is actually using more gas than coming to a stop in gear. Is it going to be significant? Probably not, but you never know.
I am sure that there are better articles but this is just one i found quickly.
I saw some program on TV once where they were doing this. I have to say, drafting a tractor-trailer with your engine shut off has got to be one of the stupidest things you can possibly do while driving. Not only can you no longer see what is happening up ahead, you no longer have brakes because your engine is shut off. People doing this are just asking to be future recepients of the Darwin award.
wow, thats awsome mileage. I just did north Jersey to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland and averaged 26 and that was with a drop the hammer at every on ramp/pit stop along the way. And a lot of 5th gear up hill pulls around trucks. Roughly 360 miles one way.
Vettes are great one you get them out of the city HOWEVER... I have also been on the parkway coming back from the shore and watched my tank evaporate in traffic going like 20 miles.
That's pretty surprising. I recently did a 150 mile each way trip and was only averaging about 27.5 on the highway. I'm all stock minus the zip-tie mod, ported TB, and an X in place of my H-pipe (no effect). I don't see how you could get 34!
On the coasting to a stop, when in gear and you let off,the engine slows as you do.In neutral, engine speed is at idle. How much effect,if any? Who knows.
The key,as I stated was driving the legal limit.I77 the limit is mostly 60 and on secondary roads it's 55,with some speed traps at 35-45.
Easy foot=No Fun...but it was an interesting test.
It did hurt when a old Ford Pinto passed me on the interstate!! UGH!!
As a 6 time Vette Owner( 63,65,72,78,85,02) It won't happen again....until gas goes to $5/Gal later this year.

We did a 260 mile road trip last weekend and I got right at 25. Mostly 35 to 50 mph driving. Modest revs, Air on half the trip. I was not trying to conserve for the stat.
