I just got back from Chicago and decided to go out in the garage and uncover my Vette. I ran my hand along the hood to feel the wax... great... then along the front fender... great... then along the area behind the wheel well... great... but... um... what's all this black stuff? I continued down the door and the rocker panel and discovered something I never realized. Brake dust was covering the whole area. I got out the Meguiar's QD and sprayed it down and removed it.
The point of this post is to point out that, apparently, every time you drive your car you're going to have a light coating of brake dust on the surface behind the front wheels. And it went all the way to the rear wheel well.
I'm guessing most of you already knew this, but, just in case, I thought I woud post it. I'm guessing there's no way to prevent it.
I would be crushed after spending hours detailing my yellow vet just to go for a nice ride and come home to what appeared to be dirt all down the sides of my car especially the rear quarter panels....then a friend suggested I change out my brake pads from stock to ceramic and WHOOO-LA....next to nothing for brake dust now !! YEEEEEHAAAA !!
I have never had a problem with brake dust on my body either. When I see it it is usually on wheels after lots of driving. Still driving with original brake pads with 70k miles.
