Thanks for all the suggestions. I particularly like the anteater! Manly voice. That's funny, too.
I guess because it was cooler over night, (50 degrees) they must have huddled together somewhere to keep warm, because when I checked this morning, I didn't see any. I just checked a little bit ago when I got home, and there were a few more stragglers...some dead and some alive. I'd like to know where they are hiding, so I can them, too.
I can tell you what not to do. I took a trip to California in my 79 TA years ago and noticed a few ants in the trunk while getting something out of the trunk at a rest area. Didn't think much of it until I had them crawling all over me while driving somewhere in the middle of Oregon. They were all over the place by that point. Got home and put a bug bomb on the console and set it off and closed up the car and walked away. Big mistake, it blew all over my headliner and ran down my console and made a big mess. Don't use a bug bomb.
You put a bug bomb IN the car??? When I made the suggestion I was thinking of a closed garage and the BB close enough to do it's job. Not IN the car.
As I mentioned, fortunately, they are not INSIDE the car, only along the rocker panel. So no bug bomb needed. I keep finding stragglers, though. Most of them are dead, but a few are still kicking.
I fear they have invaded the inside of the door!! I've sprayed some stuff in there, and some ants come out, but I don't want to over do it for fear of messing up the motor, electronics, mechanisms, etc. It would appear that I'll have to get the inside door panel off! What a freaking nightmare!!
Thank you TXZ0603. I went up to the hardware store and bought some roach and ant powder, containing boric acid. Spread it all around the door and rocker panels and inside, to make a bit of a barrier. I've been away from the house for 5 hours. I just got home and checked and this is the first time I haven't seen one ant, either dead or alive. I think this did it, as you promised! Film at 11! THANKS AGAIN!
Personally, I would pop the door panel off to clear out the interior of the door. Not hard to do and you'll have the peace of mind that only disassembly can bring.
Remove chicken McNugget from interior and place on floor outside car - problem solved. If they are still in the car the next day, these are "racing ants" and they are just looking for a cheap thrill.
Usually, I don't have an ant problem unless the car sits for a week or so. If I park it and I know it will sit, I spray ant and roach killer around each tire. Those little buggers will look for anyplace to call home. Kinda like kids until they are 30 yrs old.
