My wife and I were getting ready to take BLUEHVN out for a ride this morning, and when I held her door open, something didn't look quite right. So I peered a little closer, and the rocker panel cover wasn't as bright as I thought it should be. That's when I realized it was covered with ants!! Well, I hollared at her to get out of the car, and in her haste, her purse strap got caught around her leg! She tumbled into me, screaming, "What, what?" "ANTS," I screamed back! The little bastadges were all along the bottom of the door, in the hinges, under the gold trim piece on the rocker panel, and even, I think, in the door latch strike. I can't be sure about that last part, because I cannot get the screws out. I checked the driver's side, and they were there, too, but not as many. Anyone else had and ant infestation in their car,and what did you do to make sure you were rid of them?
I try to never park over an ant hill! Seriously, sorry about the infestation........never heard of that before. Bug bomb and a good detail is my suggestion.
Sorry for your pain there. Just wonder what might have keyed their interest inside the car? Might want to do a good look-see and make sure there's no food or sugar-based liquid spilled anywhere or stashed under the seats.
I had this happen in my Honda many years ago and I sprayed Raid in my car....I am not sure I would do that to my vette though Maybe you can use a shop-vac? Good luck!! It's very aggrevating, I know!!
They were never actually IN the car, only along the rocker panels. Well, some went inside the car AFTER I hit them with bug spray. I continue to find the odd straggler around the rocker panels.* I wonder if they could have gone up inside the door.* There is a small hole (for drainage?) on the bottom of the door, but there aren't any lurking around it.*
I can tell you what not to do. I took a trip to California in my 79 TA years ago and noticed a few ants in the trunk while getting something out of the trunk at a rest area. Didn't think much of it until I had them crawling all over me while driving somewhere in the middle of Oregon. They were all over the place by that point. Got home and put a bug bomb on the console and set it off and closed up the car and walked away. Big mistake, it blew all over my headliner and ran down my console and made a big mess. Don't use a bug bomb.
I parked my '99 at an Airport Indoor parking place when it was close to being new and was gone for a few days. When I came back, the ants were after something in the cup holder. Never did figure out how they managed to get in there. Wiped them all out and had stragglers for days.
