Tires! Goodyear GS D3 or Toyo T1R?

I had Toyo Proxies on another car, they were great until about 15K miles when they got hard as a rock (more than normal). The steering wheel would shake even after balancing. Does anyone have high mileage on their Toyo tires?

Obviously, you have little or no experience with the D3s. As I mentioned, Car & Driver spent quite a bit of time testing most of the popular super high-performance tires that were available at the time. The D3s trounced them all. For anyone to say that the D3s are crap is simply incredible.
By the way The BF Goodrich KDs are dangerous on wet surfaces. They generate a measly .67 Gs compared to the GSD3's .82 Gs. That's like night and day.
Of course, street tires will never be as sticky as pure race or drag tires, but the street tires will last alot longer and will not act like they are made of ice on wet roads (well, except for the KDs).

Good point! I recall a few years ago (before I bought mine) when I asked various people at the Tirerack what they thought about the D3s, based upon their own testing. Each time I inquired, I was told that the D3s have been held in very high regard at the Tirerack. In fact, more than one rep. told me that the D3s are "superior" to the lower cost tires.

I believe the KDs generated .93g vs the D3s .92g, so they had a very small edge on dry roads. The big problem was their .67g on wet roads. That's scary! The D3s feel almost the same on wet as they do on dry. It is actually a bit eerie how well the D3s stick while it's pouring buckets.

Amen, on the wet roads. The D3s exhibit exceptional traction in the wet. Been there, done that.

i have owned two vehicles that were equipped with d3's. Very good tire! i have also had toyos, kuhmos, and firestones, none of which can even compare to the d3's. but thats just one guys opinion.

I will agree that the GS-D3's feel so good in a torrential downpour that it's rather odd.
That said- check out the Sumitomo HTR ZIII's too. Below is a track review with them on a C5. =)
