I for one would LOVE to hear your views on the devices on the market.

I have a Valentine in each of my three vehicles. I wouldn't use anything else.

Just trying to clarify something I've heard...

Aren't they illegal because active radar jammers interfere with aviation equipment? i.e... you could be driving down the interstate and all of a sudden see a jet flying in circles?

Default Whistler pro-58 (lot a bang for the buck)

Go to http://www.radarbusters.com/ for reviews and tests.
I have the whistler pro-58 in all 3 vehicles.
You can find them new for 80-90 bucks.
Have a good one

Possibly yes. It's more so because they are capable of throwing off just about anything.

If you notice on most devices they say "device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation." Radar jammers throw out a lot of interference and can cause a lot of undersired operations

Secondly I think it's because that was way to easy of a way for us (drivers) to win the "arms race" vs. cops as some jokingly (I hope) call it.

Here's something a friend in Maui sent me.
*********************************

http://www.blinderxtreme.com/

He has five Binder Extreme M-20's (no need for rear coverage as there are no overpasses in Maui so no chance of geting shot from behind). He modified two for his bikes. His claim: "They work. It only has to work once and you are ahead! Buy direct. Radar Roy is not real responsive." He also added the following:

Thought you might find this interesting.

Laser Jammers
First off there are two basic types of laser jammers, active and passive.
Passive Jammers:
Passive jammers claim that they can disrupt a police radar and/or laser signal by reflecting back to the officers gun. These passive devices do not work, and Radar Roy is so confident that they will fail in protecting you, that he is offering a $5000.00 reward to anyone that can show him a passive jammer that does work.
Active Jammers:
On the other hand, active laser jammers are very effective in jamming police laser.
Once an active laser jammer senses the presence of a police lidar beam it activates and sends out its own light beam, overpowering the police laser gun.
Radar Roy explains the theory this way: "I shine a hundred candle power flashlight at you and you respond by shinning a million candle power flashlight at me. Your more powerful flashlight washes out mine"
All quality active laser jammers are designed to mount in the grill area of your vehicle and some, like the Escort ZR3 come with an additional laser head to mount in the rear.
As police target either the headlamps and/or front license plate you should consider models that have two or more heads that would mount between your headlamps and the license plate.
If you drive a larger vehicle such as full sized SUV, you should also consider a model that has four heads to provide the additional coverage.
There are several active laser jammers on the market today and Radar Roy recommends that you review his laser jammer testing reports so you can select the product best for you.
The Top Laser Jammers made today, include:
#1 - Blinder Xtreme
The Blinder Xtreme was rated the #1 laser jammer at the 2006 Radar Detector Shoot-Out in El Paso.
#2 - Lidatek LE-30
The Lidatek LE30 is a active diode based unit and its one head packs the same punch as two headed LED based systems such as the Blinder.
There are no federal prohibitions of laser jammers, as laser is controlled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under CFR 21, subpart 1040, 1041 for eye safety.
However states have enacted laws banning the ownership, sale and use of laser jammers they are Minnesota, California, Utah, Colorado, Illinois, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Virginia and Washington DC.

All I can say I havent found a laser or radar jammer that has worked against my laser or radar unit....and my rule has been if I stop you, and I see a radar/laser detector, I figure that it didn't work, and you can press hard 3 copies.......I figure you played the odds, and you lost that round....plus those things are so noisy in the city with all of the things that set them off, I dont see how you put up with all of the false alarms.....If it goes off, and you see the LEO in sight, he has got you...just wait to see if you get pulled over...I think of the times I have seen drivers rip it off the dash and windshield when I give them a ticket...I just walk back to the car laughing........

The Federal Communications Commission says radar jammers are not legal to operate, manufacturer, or market. In the FCC’s Public Notice, DA 96-2040 the Commission says, “Radar Jammers are transmitters tuned to interfere with (jam) a radar signal. The intentional use of jammers is considered ‘malicious interference’ and is strictly prohibited by the Communications Act of 1934 as amended as well as the FCC rules. Anyone using a jammer risks penalties or faces criminal prosecution.”

I suppose you also pre-profile blacks, hispanics and other "guilty" looking offenders as well?

Why not just shoot everyone in the face and call it a day? I mean it's obvious due process carmps your style.

I think you miss the point - these are not "jammers", but detectors, and are legal for sale and use in Texas... probably more legal that your questionable tactics.

.....If it goes off, and you see the LEO in sight, he has got you...

Only if the person was speeding - or do you also just make up a speed and ticket people anyway?

Thats why I like my new 9500i - it shows me my speed when the radar detector goes off, and if I am travelling at the speed limit and get pulled over, it is my limited defense against corrupt and over zealous police enforcement.

These are all a great added layer of protection. Just be careful and use your eyes and head. Around here the DPS uses VASCAR a lot and it does not emmit a beam so there is nothing to detect. So while these detectors do add a measure of protection (for me too) they are not fool proof.

I believe that he is talking about a LASER jammer. These are perfectly legal.

Amen brother.

By the way: Some years back someone gave me a BEL Laser Alert LR (model LA 152). I knew it was usless here so I never used it. It's so old the insulation for the power cord came off. Now just two sepperate wires (insulated) from the cigarette power plug to the one that plugs into the unit. Unit just siiting in it's box. Taking up space. Free to any takers. You pay the shipping from Hawaii. Assume $10.
