A search will show that radar detectors are an almost religious subject with firm believers in each denomination!
I have a Passport 8500 in the Vette and love it. My DD has an $50"fleabay special" Bell 845 and I have never felt I was in jepordy with the Bell either.
Valentine V1. Can't live without it. Sure, you pay a decent amount, but honestly that thing has probably paid for itself 10-20 times, no exaggeration. I had the Escort 9500 before - never got busted with it, but just didn't LOVE it the way I love my Valentine. I trust that thing completely. If it says I can go fast, I go fast. If it says to stomp my brakes into the floor, I do it. Plus I like the upgrade program they have... just got mine last summer, so haven't needed to send it in for upgrades yet, but its nice to know when new radar technology is out, Valentine will take care of you for minimal cost.
And the arrows.. damn.. my favorite part! There's just something about knowing where the cop is that gives you a cool feeling.
Spend the money, get it, and don't look back. You'll be happy.

I was considering the Beltronics RX65 Pro, the more reviews I read on all radar detectors the more confused I get. I gave up for now and just do the speed limit...

I've even seen easy to understand spreadsheets on pros/cons of different units and it still boils down to what the LEO (who I love and respect ) is using.
Not only that...I want this thing to be invisible. I want a tiny sequential LED to tell me whats up and that's it. Def. don't want a big box hangin around.
I've had Beltronics for the past 15 years with great results. Put the RX65 in the Jeep and the Vette. Then switched to the RX75 in the Vette because it is built in and concealed. They work great! I like the voice telling me which radar band so all I have to do is check my speed and not think about the beep tone. When I hear Ka Band I know what to watch out for. Pretty simple and has worked for me. Everybody has their favorite brand of course, I just prefer this one.
Valentine V1, Escort 8500/9500 (one has GPS "false alarm detection)
Escort makes an active laser jammer than is integrated in the car so you can't actually see the laser/radar detector. They are very nice but you pay a good chuck of change for them. $1000+ installed.
You guys that only have to deal with radar are LUCKY!!! Here in Hawaii (Oahu - Honolulu - we have to deal with "instant-on" lasers. The only way to beat that is with a jamming device. $$$
Anything 30 mph over the posted speed limit and anything in excess of 80 mph (max speed limit here is 60 mph) is a go to jail offense as it is concidered "reckless" driving. Jail time, fines and license supension vary as the incidents increase.
If anyone has any direct questions about radar detectors PM me, I spent quite some time selling them and know most pretty well.
Bro...very good of you to offer up your advice (based on your experience and knowledge) for free but if I were you...I'd go ahead and post your thoughts in a new thread (or possibly this one) rather than getting a crazy amount of PM's from all the peeps and having to answer them all individually.
I for one would LOVE to hear your views on the devices on the market.
Other than which one do I buy, what are the most common questions? I'll set up a spreadsheet comparison if you guys tell me what you want to know. Most radar's biggest features are going to come down to the information they display, their range, the bands they detect, and their price.
Passive radar/lidar jammers are useless. Active lidar jammers work very well, and active radar jammers are illegal and can get you a couple of thousand dollar fine with some jail time.
