[SIZE="4"][SIZE="5"]I am hoping someone can help with this question. I have a rag top convertible (C5, 1998) with a solid glass window with drfroster wires. When I wentthrough a local car wash this morning the rear window separated from the soft top. I took it to my local Chevy dealre and he stated that the window and the top came as 2 separate parts and that a local glass company should probably be able to repair it. Has anyone else had this problem? How is this actually repaired and how much should it cost to repair? Thanks for any help here.
Its very common and a very easy fix with black silicone. I cleaned my window and top areas with rubbing alcohol and stuffed comforters in the back package tray area to hold the window tightly against the top.
From the outside I then ran a 1/4 inch bead of the black silicone all around the old sealing surfaces and let it dry for about 36 hours. I just lifted up and stuck the tube deep into the sealing area. After it was dry, I ran a bead on the inside as well, just for good measure.
After speaking with my local Chevy dealer they were able to come up with a solution that worked out very well. My dealer found a local upholstery shop that actually stitched the rear window back into place. Total cost was $375.00 and it looks as good as new.
I had the window fall out of my 1998 vert last fall before putting it away for the winter. It's not the original top and probably not a factory top. It looks like the glass must have been heat bonded to the top. Otherwise the top is in excellent shape, so I ordered the rhinoglue and a couple of 4 1/2 inch dent pullers from ebay. Total damage - $30.00. This will be a huge savings over buying a new top!! So glad I visted the forum!!!
