Just tried to burp the car, did not work. The temp got up t0 235 then fan came on, but reached 239? Slowly cooled down to 225 then jumped back to 239.
Your fans should both run in LOW speed mode starting at 226 degrees .... they will shift to HIGH speed mode at 235 .... sounds like your fans aren't running in LOW speed mode ?????

Yea it does seem like they take forever to come on.
Another option, clean the front of your radiator by spraying water or air (air preferred) through the back of the radiator. All sorts of dust, dirt, mud, pollen, etc. collects in the radiator fins and can restrict air flow through the radiator. You may also need to check for water flow through the radiator to ensure the water pump is still pushing sufficient water through the system. Depending on mileage, your radiator may have some blockage inside (from infrequent coolant changes) and the water may not be flowing sufficiently to bleed off the temperature.
Check oil level as a low level can add some heat to the motor.
Started the car this morning and the engine light was on, code po480, which is cool fan 1. I replaced the relay lastnight and its still pulling the code? The fan is coming on at 235
First, using the DIC, DELETE that P0480 ... it takes 3 engine cycles with "correct" performance to turn off the Check Engine light. The DTC still being set MAY be stopping the PCM from energizing the LOW speed fans.
Then check Fuse 49 (30 Amp) in the underhood fuse block. That is the fuse for FAN1 (The low speed fans) ..... Also was it relay 45 that you replaced ??? That is the FAN1 relay.
Are both fans running ??? I suspect only your Right Cooling Fan is running in HIGH speed mode .....
There are 2 other relays and two other fuses for the Fans ...... Relay 43 and 44 and Fuse 46 (30 Amp) and Fuse 14 (10 Amp). They should all be fine if you are getting HIGH speed fans ... but if you want to use them to swap around parts ... that's what they are.
Can anyone chime in on this one. It is the basic, all of a sudden the Temp climbs higher than it ever has in my 97 stock coupe, except for a ACP Motor-sport bumper that was installed. This has never been a problem in the past as far as the Temp went, but I had to remove the front spoiler that bolts onto the bottom of the bumper because of the poor roads in CT. I believe it probably help direct air up to the radiator, but now I have been in FL for a year and had no problems with it taken off. It was either that or it would be ripped off until I could get larger tires all around.
Anyways, now in FL and around town on 97-100 degree days the temp is around 235 to 239. But the real problem is when I get on the highway the Temp jumps up to 250. I cleaned the radiator of some junk, not much and checked the overfill cap to make sure that it held pressure at 15 lbs. The coolant was burped and is at the right level. Checked the fans and the low and high speeds work and both fans go on. When I put the A/C on both the fans come on at high speed. Does someone have any idea what to do next or what to try. It seems really weird to me that the faster I go on the highway the higher the Temp goes. It stays pegged at 250 and when I get off the highway it eventually goes back down to 235-239. Any help would be gladly accepted and appreciated. Thanks.
If you are missing the air dam under the front of the car .... you will get exactly the symptoms you are getting now .... put the air dam back on and all will be well. Leave the air dam off .... you will "cook" the engine and do serious damage to the engine (head gaskets, etc)
Alright guys here's the latest. I took my car to my local shop and they found that the left fan was going out causing it to short out the 30 amp fuse. I replaced the fan motor and now it stays around 220 and 235. I still have never seen my car get over 225 in dead heat traffic. I changed the thermostat and got all the air out, same thing. I do not have a front air dam on the car. I will buy one tomorrow. There was a lot of trash in the radiator I cleaned out still same thing. My cousins Z06 wont even go over 210. I am lost and the shop I went does not know what to do from here? I have not had a front air dam since I bought the car so I know thats not the problem, but I know it will help.
