Alright guys here's the latest. I took my car to my local shop and they found that the left fan was going out causing it to short out the 30 amp fuse. I replaced the fan motor and now it stays around 220 and 235. I still have never seen my car get over 225 in dead heat traffic. I changed the thermostat and got all the air out, same thing. I do not have a front air dam on the car. I will buy one tomorrow. There was a lot of trash in the radiator I cleaned out still same thing. My cousins Z06 wont even go over 210. I am lost and the shop I went does not know what to do from here? I have not had a front air dam since I bought the car so I know thats not the problem, but I know it will help.
The front air dam may be causing the problem. I have an iron block (hot) 408 stroker (hot X2) with a stock radiator (hot X3) and high compression, nitrous, etc (hot X4) and on the highway AND sitting at a light it never goes over 199 (unless I sit and idle FOREVER, but I never do) and this is in 100 degree Texas weather. You should be below 200 at all times, IMO.
CJR2,
I have never replaced it, but maybe will do it. Also any idea how to check if the water pump is working properly. I could not find anything in the manual on how to go about testing it: Thanks again for the input.
If you are missing the air dam under the front of the car .... you will get exactly the symptoms you are getting now .... put the air dam back on and all will be well. Leave the air dam off .... you will "cook" the engine and do serious damage to the engine (head gaskets, etc)
Black Z06,
I will install a front spoiler under the front of the bumper. Maybe just with the age of the car and miles on it, it may need more help cooling. Always been faithful on maintenance etc. But maybe a little air from underneath will help. Thanks

Let us know if it helps ... if you need part numbers for the 3 pieces of the air dam post and let us know ... the whole assembly runs about $100.00 in parts.

Try turning on the heat, if the car gets hot both are working. I'd jack up the front and inspect the radiator for debris before you do anything further.

I had one fan blow the fuse every time it tried to come on. You couldn't see any problem looking at it but it wouldn't turn as freely as it should.
Turned out being a plastic bag got sucked up in the fan and it melted into a hard piece of plastic between the fan and the motor. I had to replace my fan motor, which can be done without removing the radiator, but you will a few bloody knuckles when you're done.
Like many have already said, that front air dam is very important!!
Check the stinkin radiator air flow area now and then , stuff gets up there on the most beautiful cars that shine like diamonds. The only way to get that stuff out is to TAKE IT OUT...carefully though, very carefully...low pressure air is probably the best way...
Flush the system now and then..
My 01 runs at around 200 normally , yesterday, very hot day, it never got over 205 around town.
