Haltech Stinger and CA smog?
Thanks for the help..
Halltech C5 Stinger 97-2000
Expect 10 RWHP 12 ft. lbs Torque from the original Halltech Stinger. Easy 10 minute install, no cutting, no rain issues, and no warranty problems. Simple Horsepower, without the risk of water damage. Off Road Use Only.
Don't know why since my old K&N was the same set up and had a carb cert. sticker on it.

Anyone want to buy a Haltech Stinger with ~5000 miles on it?
im not a mechanic so i cant just go swapin out stuff all the time with no effort... im a computer geek not a car geek!!
I cant seem to get the MAF unit off the Haltech air bridge. I have removed the clamp and it just wont budge... I dont really want to use brute force unless i have to... Is there a secret or easy technique to getting the MAF off the Haltech airbridge? or could the Haltech airbridge have melted and bonded from the engine heat to the MAF?
Thanks for help or suggestions... would like to finish this today, but dont want to take the risk of damaging the MAF unit
Is CA still doing the sniff test on newer cars with computer controlled emissions? In AZ they surprised me by just hooking my 99 up to the computer at idle.

The MAF can be a real bear to get off, but try rotating it, one way and then the other, in both axes.
And I recommend that you don't even try to "slip it by". If you get caught, it'll be a real hassle. I went through this Russian Roulette stuff with my 68 and I vowed, never again. Besides, the Stinger probably needs to be cleaned, anyway.

Ok i will give it a go... as long as there is no locks or other devices keepign it on that i dont know about... i took off the retainer ring all together and it seems like its almost bonded to the bridge... i hope it comes off
If you're in one of the inspection-only counties (you say mid-state; could be San Joaquin, which is bad, or Inyo, which is good), best be ready for the full visual inspection.
To get the MAF and airbridge separated, I've just removed the assembly and wiggled the MAF. It did come out with a little persuasion, but no force.
The Vararam looks enough like a GM part (decent quality but not oh-wow polished super-slick) that I am guessing it would sneak by the local smog shops, unless the tech is a Vette guy. But I pulled the big V-R sticker off, and haven't had to have it checked yet.
Good luck. It seems like just meeting or exceeding the emissions requirements should be enough, but the state needs $18B, and if der Governator's marker (a la Charles Barkley) isn't approved by the voters, look for more onerous enforcement as a way to generate fines for revenue. And my Singaporean colleagues think they have it bad in their "fine" city...
Most smog places cannot even tell the difference between a stock manifold and long tube header.
