Sitting at a stop light the truck (this time a Ford 150 with hydrolic front assembly) notices space between it and the "line" (I was first) and tries to fill it up. What is with these people. Just bumper cover damage but I am curious how many times can the bumper cover be painted before you have to remove all existing paint. This will be the 3rd painting.
The fellow was appologetic but boy is this getting anoying. Ya think it's because the car is Green (only good for primer, yes I know) and he couldn't see the Vette because of the Trees?
Clarification:
I was at a stop light and everyone stopped. Behind me a F150 stopped. After a short time the F150 moved forward and hit my rear bumper. (I had that happen 2 times before by trucks) He was very appologetic and said he just didn't see me in front of him. He had seen me when he stopped the first time but I guess while he was on the phone he forgot I was there and just decided to move forward.
MY QUESTION: How many time can a plastic bumper be painted this will be the 3rd time and me thinks that's too many and that I should insist on either a new bumper cover or that the existing paint be chemically or mechanically removed. What do you guys think.
Thanks.
Thank you for responding. I stay away from silver because it looks too much like the road. Well no more green either. The best color IMHO was my C4 in Yellow. Well I have a few years before I can replace this one so I'll just carry on. Be well all.

Reason: Clarification - Sorry I wasn't clear. I was bumped because per the driver he didn't see my car below his truck.

Huh? I have no idea whatsoever what the heck you're talking about.
Assuming you were tapped from behind at a traffic signal..... I have a standard and am always checking my rearview mirror when I am at signals to be sure the cars behond me stop short enough. I make sure my break is applied as well. Lastly, I leave enough room in front of me to pull forward if it looks too close.
Sorry for your chronic problems with this type of situation! You can always ask for a new bumper cover, especially if you can prove you just had it redone very recently.
Really though I do not believe you can paint the fiberglass too many times. The prep work removes the clearcoat and maybe some paint but it should all be fine again when they are done.
Look it over closely and make sure you are happy with the paint job before accepting you car back.

C5 rear bumpers are ABS plastic, not fibreglass.
Its probably no more than $4-600 for a new bumper so I'd see if they'll stick it on. In all the cases I had paint done to bumpers on my other non-Vette cars they stripped the old and put on new. I'm pretty sure most reputable paint shops don't give it the maaco treatment (simply painting another coat). That said, its prolly fine.
