I just got a little Garmin 350 GPS - a cool little device. Amazing how it holds every street in the USA in such a small box.
For an extra few bucks I got this dash mount pad- its a heavy flexible pad with a Garmin bracket. I put it on the center console. The power cord just sort of hangs around. This works very nicely, but it's not so neat looking. How do others mount their GPS?
Also how does the built in GPS system (in C6) compare with the Garmin. I like my Garmin because I can easily move it to my other cars and it was only $300.
I have a Garmin, but I use the windshield mount. I read that once the dash mount disk is set on the dash it does not come off. The suction mount will come off, but you are stuck with that mounting disk still on your dash or console.
With the simple suction cup on the actual mount it releases from the windshield and there is do indication it was ever there.

I use the suction cup to mount my Garmin to the targa top. It is completely out of the way, doesn't block any vents and is as easy to see as the rearview mirror-because it sits just above. Try this before you buy any extra 'holders'. I got this idea from another member here!!
My Garmin came with a sticky disc which you permanently attach to the dash, and then the suction cup sticks to that. Of course, I would never stick that nasty thing on my dash.
I've considered two options. One, remove the rubber piece at the bottom of the cupholder and stick the disc below it. Then I can quickly return things to stock look by putting the rubber back in. Not sure if the GPS would be in a very good location, though.
Or two, get a Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash Pad. Anybody tried this?
I used a rattle can top and mounted industrial strength velcro on it, putting the whole thing in the cup holder. The suction cup on the Garmin's holder is suctioned to the disk and the disk has velcro on it and fastens to the top of the rattle can velcro. Can move the Garmin from car to car.
I discovered that the very small space directly above the center A/C vent will accommodate a thin piece of aluminum. Such a thin piece can be purposely formed so as to be the horizontal holding component of a homemade GPS bracket. I used Velcro to attach the GPS to the vertical component of the mount. Since this method does not lend itself to using the standard ball mount it requires another means of applying DC power. Power was initially applied through the charging jack. I discovered that applying power through the charging jack will reduce the daytime screen brilliance. I was eventually able to overcome that problem and get full brilliance but the below photos are of the mount before the power/brilliance problem was resolved. Primary benefits of this mount: It places the GPS in an optimal position above the vent where it is visible w/o taking your eyes very far from the road yet does not block the A/C or view of the road.
I don't have mine "permanently" mounted, as I find I only need it when I don't know where I'm going! I just bought a case for it (custom Garmin case, $18 or so) that holds the unit, mount, and cord in one case, and it actually FITS in the dinky glove box. So I just pull it out when I need it and stick it to the windshield.
