I faced the same decision a couple of years ago. I bought a one owner 02 vert, in great shape, with 50K on the clock. Got a good price at the time and the car checked out, however the owner hadn't maintained the service records. Being concerned with a big ticket repair bill I ultimately decided to purchase an extended warranty. The one I chose was a $0 deductible exclusionary warranty. The warranty is 48 months or 100K. I paid 25% of the cost upfront and paid the balance interest free over the next 24 months. I paid the warranty off a few months ago and my thought at the time was that I had wasted my money. Money I could have put into mods.
Fast forward to last month. All of a sudden my A4 won't shift from first to second and / or it really slips and it starts throwing codes. In to the shop it goes and we find out that the tranny needs to be replaced. A little red tape from the warranty company (inspection after tear down) and they pay for a new tranny. Now the car shifts like a sports car should. Total repair bill paid by my warranty company was $3,000, which was way more than I paid for the warranty in the first place.
$1,200 if it's a reputable company is a no-brainier in my opinion. Do it. Peace of mind is worth that.
it doesnt have to be the gmmp warranty as long as they have a good rep. i am part of the auto warranty group and i couldn't be happier at this point with all that they have done for me as far as coverage and fast service too
Extended warrenty saved me. Roller on lifter went bad and put metal through the engine. Under warranty a new engine was installed. $2000 warranty covered a nearly $10,000 bill. Only $100 deductible was my cost. I still have 5 months and another 15,000 miles on my warranty. Most likely will have other warranty work done soon.
I bought my warranty for just under $2000 with coverage for 4 years and 60,000 miles. My FRC had just over 31000 miles when I purchased it.
What would your $1200 warranty cover? How many miles? How many months? How many miles are on your vette now?
Your choice, but my warranty was worth every penny to buy it.
I had a similar experience, the lifter guides came loose, causing a mess of metal shavings and a destroyed LS6, $50 dollars out of my pocket cover a 15k bill from my dealer. I was loving the fact that I bought the extended warranty.

man sounds like i am not the only one that had a lifter destroy
I woud suggest only buying GMPP warranty. Others can either be hard to deal with, or go out of business right when you need them.
I got an additional 5 years/40,000 miles for $1,070, and it goes until 2011.
I have already collected more than the cost with two window regulators and a brake master cylinder.

I bought a extended warranty from Dealer Warranty services out of St Louis. I had 42,000 on the clock, and they gave me a bumper to bumper (only thing not covered is rotors, pads, plugs, normal wear tear items and the HUD unit), $50 deductible, and it goes until I reach 100,000, with no time limit. I have had to use it twice, and the repair cost was $1800.00, the warranty cost $1900.00, so I feel it has paid for itself. I have now 49,000 on the clock.
So I'm debating on buying an extended warranty, the dealer where I bought the vett from offered me a warranty at his cost and called me yesterday to see if I still wanted it. The cost is about $1200 and it covers bumper to bumper, every electrical, mechanical problem besides normal issues like brakes, clutch etc, also this warranty comes with a $0 deductible. My question to you all is should I buy this, should I risk not having a warranty and just handle issues on my own?
The only problem that the vett is having is the light and DIC says service active handling but from what I read its a $150 fix
Don't even think twice about it, ALWAYS buy the extended warranty when buying a new Vette. Get the absolute maximum and best coverage warranty you can get. I absolutely guarantee you that it will pay for itself, quite possibly several times over. I bought the GM 75K extended warranty on mine and aside from my house and my car it's one of the best investments I've ever made.
So I emailed the guy from GMPP, cant get it because I'm not covered under factory warranty anymore, guess Im going to go with the one from the dealer. Will post up the name and coverage types when I get all the details for you guys
