So I'm debating on buying an extended warranty, the dealer where I bought the vett from offered me a warranty at his cost and called me yesterday to see if I still wanted it. The cost is about $1200 and it covers bumper to bumper, every electrical, mechanical problem besides normal issues like brakes, clutch etc, also this warranty comes with a $0 deductible. My question to you all is should I buy this, should I risk not having a warranty and just handle issues on my own?
The only problem that the vett is having is the light and DIC says service active handling but from what I read its a $150 fix
Extended warrenty saved me. Roller on lifter went bad and put metal through the engine. Under warranty a new engine was installed. $2000 warranty covered a nearly $10,000 bill. Only $100 deductible was my cost. I still have 5 months and another 15,000 miles on my warranty. Most likely will have other warranty work done soon.
I bought my warranty for just under $2000 with coverage for 4 years and 60,000 miles. My FRC had just over 31000 miles when I purchased it.
What would your $1200 warranty cover? How many miles? How many months? How many miles are on your vette now?
Your choice, but my warranty was worth every penny to buy it.

mine has paid for itself who knows how many times. i have AON as my extended warranty company. so far its been a rear wheel bearing, bent shift fork and bent input shaft, mostly covered except for labor for headers, now new motor because of a lifter gone bad. to me, its been great i paid about 1800 for 5yr/60k miles. still have 2yrs or 30k left on it. oh and the new motor comes with a 3yr/50k warranty
For $1200 bucks with a $0 deductible, if your even remotely thinking about a warranty, I would be all over that price! Read the fine print though, I'll bet it DOES NOT cover wear items like the clutch. Is it a GMPP? That's a heck of a price if it is, especially on an '02 with 60k on the clock!.
yup, good price. most wont cover wear items like that, but worth a look anyway. but some of the electronics are high dollar items on these cars and one of those going down usually pays for itself there.
Is it a GMPP warranty? I bought it for my '02, the tranny (A4) caplooied a week after the time expired (but not the mileage) GM took care of it no problem, over $3,500.00 to fix according to the dealer... I'd definately get it again....

I bought a 40 month/40,000 mile $0 deductable GMPP plan in Sept 2005 when my car was almost 36 months old and had 24,000 miles on the clock. Paid about $1,100.
Its paid for itself several times. Most recently the AC/Heater display/control unitwent out - parts and labor was about $700.00.

Trust DPG(Dave) on this 1000 percent as we were just discussing this today. He just had a bad lifter, destroyed the motor and it is being covered...and also last year work on this Trans was pretty much covered. He's been there done that and bought the shirt.

I don't think there is ANYONE who can beat Dennis Fichtner at the price of an extended warranty. And really, if say your Ac compressor heads south one summer morning your covered or if an alternator goes bad or a head gasket. any of these job or repairs are going to more than cover the cost of the warranty.imho plus Dennis fichtner is a great guy to deal with. real straight shooter.

I believe for the GMPP warranty you need to be within coverage of the original factory warranty to get one. Or, you need to already have the GMPP extended warranty and you can then extend it further........
Unless you already have a GMPP warranty and want to extend it... you would not be able to start one now

You may not be able to get GMPP but, A warranty is better than NO warranty

Enemy, are you a gambler? If you are then pick yes or no and spin the wheel.
I faced the same decision a couple of years ago. I bought a one owner 02 vert, in great shape, with 50K on the clock. Got a good price at the time and the car checked out, however the owner hadn't maintained the service records. Being concerned with a big ticket repair bill I ultimately decided to purchase an extended warranty. The one I chose was a $0 deductible exclusionary warranty. The warranty is 48 months or 100K. I paid 25% of the cost upfront and paid the balance interest free over the next 24 months. I paid the warranty off a few months ago and my thought at the time was that I had wasted my money. Money I could have put into mods.
Fast forward to last month. All of a sudden my A4 won't shift from first to second and / or it really slips and it starts throwing codes. In to the shop it goes and we find out that the tranny needs to be replaced. A little red tape from the warranty company (inspection after tear down) and they pay for a new tranny. Now the car shifts like a sports car should. Total repair bill paid by my warranty company was $3,000, which was way more than I paid for the warranty in the first place.
$1,200 if it's a reputable company is a no-brainier in my opinion. Do it. Peace of mind is worth that.
