Default Open Headers

Like the topic says, has anyone tried running there car with open headers?

I currently have Long Tube headers and my friend wants to try running them open and tuning it to see if I can get better HP/TQ.

Anyone run their vette like that?

i think the closest most people get to that are cutouts.

Just throw a set of these on there. Maybe good for a few. I haven't had it on the dyno since these were installed but I don't expect much. They are insanely fun though.

we tried it on some f-bodies and lost power unless you ran extensions on the end of the headers. I cant remember the exact reason for it, but 8 or 10 inch enxtensions from the collector yeilded better numbers than just open.

I had my car running on open headers when I did my build - just to hear what it would sound like. It was so loud that it rattled the windows in the parts department.

What is this, the next Fox-body forum? Ugh.

Seriously people, have some respect for yourselves and your cars. Just because you can finally afford a Corvette doesn't mean you should act like Vanilla Ice. Open headers? Undercar LEDs? The underhood chrome covers are bad enough!

To each his own. There are plenty of guys around here running cut-outs etc.. That way they can have best of both worlds.

Don't think I could stand all the noise with just open headers.

I know I would not last long before the local law stopped me and handed me a nice ticket.

I currently have LT's to my corsa xpipe + corsa pace car.

After research and talking with some buddies.

I came to the conclusion that open headers wouldn't be the best route to go for a vette. I don't know if you guys have seen the underside of your vettes... it looks AWESOME!

What Im going to experiment now since I have my current exhaust.

Im going to remove the exhaust cans/tips section on each side of my exhaust. Leave that open for a while and see how I like it.

If I like it, im going to have my muffler shop custom weld an extension pipe if needed and cut off and weld the corsa tips onto the extensions.

What do you all think.

I hope you arn't talking DD here, Maybe around the block once or twice, There is no way I could drive my car on the street with open exhaust. Let alone having the law stopping you.

I'd go with cut-outs. Here you go: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2032203 I'm getting these once my F/I project is complete in a couple months.

The open headers loses power, sounds like a dragster, use cutouts and get a deeper sound!

Cut outs are one thing. Open headers on the street is just plain dumb.

With open headers you'll just get more noise than performance. Louder isn't faster.
