on the owners video they show the car going 24hr (with only brakes, tires and fuel changes). Why didnt they have over temp problems?!?!
How long can the trannys go on the track without boiling the fluid?!?!?
They clearly state that they go 1 hour, stop, then go again for another hour etc. until they have done it 24 times (24 hours).
I have had two 02 Zs. I have tracked them both (about 1.5 years each)
I never had an overtemp trans warning. That's my experience, but I don't run the **** out of my car at the track. People that run at 10/10ths will usually get trans temp warnings. I usually go about 8/10ths or so (still very fast) and have never had any problems.
Only time my temp came on was a day at the track where I spent a lot of time in 3rd gear. Started running more in 4th and haven't seen it since.
i run short road courses 100 percent on 100 degree day i get the light and slow down, use upper gears never comes on, but i just hate letting a porsche or a ricer buy! so i DOWNSHIFT!
use redline shockproof or royal purple syncromax and the tranny will be ok!
or Amsoil...those synthetic oils can take the heat and save your tranny!
i got bot the clutch-pedal-stuck-to-the-floor issue and a trans overtemp condition the only time i have taken my 01Z to a road course. it was a nice hot day (102F) last August at Buttonwillow. mobil 1 oil saw temps as high as 295F. drove it home ~300 miles without a hiccup and averaged ~28mpg according to the DTC (downhill trip)
at the track, i was over-driving the car, with it being my first track experience of any kind and considering i had only owned the car for a short time.
people will give you different perspectives, but it is hard to think that coolers of any variety (oil, trans, diff) could do anything but help when you are pushing your car hard on a track for sustained intervals.

That is the only time I get the high tranny temp warning too. I'm going to try heat wrapping the over axle pipes to see if it helps. Yes, a cooler is a much better solution but it's not in my budget.
What are my options for a tranny cooler? I know of the GM T1 kit, any others out there? I'm looking for a well packaged proven system thats not overly complicated.
