Ok, its that time of the car. I need new tires. I need good ones (is there any other kind). Non runflat. low cost would be nice. But its a Corvette.........
I was going through the same dilema and was going to go with the GS-D3's when a friend told me how happy he was with his Falken's and they are almost half the price. For some reason my back tires always wear out before the front ones , so I thought it was a worth a try.
I've got about 1K on them now and although I haven't pushed them extreemly hard in corners just yet (can't get the "it's a not a Goodyear tire" out of my head), I have gone pretty hard and am quite pleased so far.
They are not a run-flat tire. Before having these I couldn't really understand what all the fuss re noise etc. was, until I tried these! Man what a difference in ride and sound. You also get a really nice chirp when shifting.
If you want "THE BEST TIRE" and i dont care what anybody els says here i have bought them and DOMINTATED all wheel drive cars off the lines with these, and my best friend has a Supercharged 99 SS Camaro and still gets decent traction running the same tire. you need TOYO RA-1's
i LOVE this tire and it has the best traction i have ever had... and the Vette isnt my first performance vehicle. i built a 68 Coronet RT with a 440 that had WELL over 600 rear wheel torque "i have the dyno sheet to prove it" and the street slicks on that didnt hold a candle to these. you are looking at $1,400 just for rubber but like i said, take an EVO off the street light and try not to laugh when you see his face at the next light...
Love my Vredestein ULTRAC SESSANTA from TomZ Wheels. Got a good deal too, under $800 shipped. Call or message them with sizes you need to get a quote. Can't hurt at least getting a quote.
Unfortunately "Low cost" does not go with tires for Vette! I hated the price of Michilen Pilot sports. I've always had them on the car. Can't find too many tires that come in the size that I run on the rear. I gave up looking and went with them again. They are a great all around tire, once you get over what you pay for them. Good luck
Just put on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP (runflats) after reading lots of info on this forum. For me it was a practical decision based on the way I use the car. They cost a lot less than OEM but are not cheap, quieter than OEM but not as quiet as non run flats, are all-season but not super high performance. Been on them for two weeks so far and I'm happy. It is a Corvette and I wanted an appropriate tire with the added insurance of an all weather runflat. Just my humble opinion.
Although you can find far less expensive tires, none will last as long as these and none will outhandle the D3s on both dry and wet roads. It's easy to make a sticky compound tire; it's much harder to make that tire channel water out so that the road feels as if it is perfectly dry, along with the ability to not wear out after 10,000 miles of aggressive driving. Not only does the D3 do all that, but they are made here in the US by an American company. How cool is that?
