Chrome Screw Mod
I'm thinking of doing the mod to replace the screws with chrome/stainless screws. I found the stainless type but I came across some chrome mirror screws in my search
These have a chromed dome top but they're wood screws rather than self tappers. They're more expensive than the standard screws but I think the might look better
How do you think they'd look? Anyone who's done the mod see any clearance problems anywhere as the dome is slightly taller than a screw and cup. Would they fit given the different screw type? Maybe the flat collar would prevent them screwing fully home?

DeeGee,
I think they'd look quite nice. Of course, you'd have to be sure of the clearance. Maybe buy a few sets and test in several locations.
Good luck!

Check out our stainless sets on our site. They are VERY durable, and won't rust

The Answer
Well I tried out a similar wood screw and the answer is it needs a self tapping screw to fir properly. The screw dosn't snug down tight with the smooth collar.
Oh well, back to the drawing board. If only I could find self tapping equivalents

I figured you would have a problem with a collar that big. Actually I always considered a wood screw to be close to a self-tapping screw. The only difference being the collar. Let us know if you find what you're looking for, those would look

Looking for an alternative I came up with this link in TX
http://www.pro-dec.com/decorative-sc.../8-8-snap-caps
You could get any color you wanted to match your paint color.
I think I'm safe in posting as no other Forum Vendors sell colored caps (just SS & chrome)
I've decided to go with just SS covers with snap on heads. I can get them from a UK supplier so it'll save time and $$

The SS caps look cool.........my only concern would be do you need a tool to get them off ?
I just went with SS oval head phillips screws and trim rings that I bought at Lowes. Did the doors, under hood and hatchback for $10

The black OEM screws with the collars. They're fitted around the top of the front fenders in the engine compartment, around the trunk lid base and on the door pillars.
I know, we Vette owners need a life

Well I went with the screw caps for starters
I'm not sure yet if this was the best solution. I picked up some cups as well so I guess I could revert to the screws and cups if I need to.
Any thoughts? Should I paint them Mag Red?
Give me it - good or bad. I can take it
