Default EBCM replaced...grrr

Hi all. Got the dreaded service traction control a few weeks back. So, I ordered a refurbished EBCM from ABSFIXER.com and installed it today. Everything is fixed and works great now. The Grrr part was the removal and reinstall of that module. I really believe you need the hands of a 12 year old girl to do it comfortably. It was not fun and this is a relatively simple task. But, cuts and bruises and all it is done and working great.

Glad you got it fixed and all is well now. I have one question, being fairly new to the C5 cars, where is this EBCM located at so I can go out and put an eye on it. Hopefully I will never need this info, knock on wood.

It is just below your power steering pump on the front of the engine it is the part in front of the ABS module (the brake lines run out of the abs module) It has a large wiring harness on the front of it.

I hear ya man - removed the air filter and big hose (coolant i think) and it was still a pain.

BTW, after a year or so, I started getting random ABS codes again after getting it repaired by Brian (absfixer). I believe he has a lifetime warranty so its all good - I'm just too dang lazy to pull it out again. The codes always come up when I'm in and out of the car on quick errands. -strange

I seem to have "fixed" my random ABS/TC/AH issues.... the interconnect plug to the actual ABS pump was loose.

Go figure. And I got all the standard scratches, bruises and cuts from doing a full ECBM swap hehe

Is the module designed where you can replace it without removing any brake lines?

Yes, the EBCM (the computer unit) can be separated from the BPMV (the actual pump unit that has all the brake lines coming in/out) by removing some screws. The car can be driven with the EBCM removed. Obviously you don't have ABS or Traction Control, and the steering will feel different because the EBCM also controls the Magnasteer function, but the brake lines remain sealed inside the BPMV.

When I got my C4 and did the plugs and wires I needed to add bandaids and antiseptic to my tool box. I removed my EBCM over the weekend and I should have added a thick long sleeve shirt to the tool box.

You have heard the expression blood, sweat and tears. I think it all comes off when you detail the engine.

Watch the fan shroud, very sharp.

yip Soundman - it is a bit of a pain to replace. I did mine about a year ago. I raised the front of the car and did some work from the top and some from the bottom, and took just over an hr to get back in. It took a bit longer to figure out how to get it out though.

I just finished replacing/installing the front mounted EBCM in my 99 FRC.

took 2 hours. One cut on my arm. Not too bad.....

The air bridge is removed and the connector has been disconnected.

A horizontal view of the EBCM. You will need to remove the lower center isolator and 4 screws from around the edge. Torx screws.

This view is from the drivers side looking down. In the center of the picture you can see a nut. You will need to remove this one and the one on the forward side of the assembly, in addition to the one on the passengers side shown in the previous image.

This is the part left behind when the EBCM is removed. I found some contamination on the flexible circuit board upper left.

You can see the corrostion from a failed seal. The electronics died.
