hey everyone, i did a search about this and found conflicting/confusing info so i'll try this.
I'm working on installing a Proshift light w/ pills in the upper corner of my A-piller and i need to figure out where the easiest/best input tach signal wire i can tap into for the light. i see it says under the passenger side dash on the floor #10 white wire? is there any better explanation or just tear into it and its plain and simple???
I'm thinking of using the 12v + & negative of the vanity mirror? is that a good idea'r????
BTW, what is the stock rev limiter rpm in the 02 non-Z06??? 6500?
Drop the dr. side dash panel. Harness is right there,Has foam insulation around it. Pull the foam back. Theres about 24 wires there in a bundle. Theres 3 white wires there, one of them is the tach. wire. The pink wire is the ignition wire. You can ground to the metal, right there in that area also. You will know which wire the tach wire is, when you ***** it with the probe, your in dash tach will give a slight bounce. There you are, all the wires you need to do the job, including the ground. Good luck, Bob.
Bumble-z i'm going to attempt this tonight. hopefully i can find the wiring your talking about. I thought for sure the fuse box etc was on the passenger side floor??
Take some pictures while you are in there, I would like to see the install.

will do, i didn't get to it last night due to an 8' flouresnt light falling out of 1 of my lights and busting into a million pieces over my car........ i love that white powder stuff & broken glass......... i'm going to attack it tonight

The wire bundle you need to tap into for the tach signal is on the drivers side, remove the panel under the steering wheel. The wire bundle is usually wrapped in foam and it should have enough slack to put it out a few inches.
Looking up from the drivers side foot-well the bundle should be on the front corner nearest to the door,.
paint on car is good but i'm surprised how those little tiny shards of glass are so fun to find with your knees crawling around on the garage floor lol
yep got side tracked again due to raining all the flipping time..... going to start on it tonight. Thanks "Warren S" for the clarification!
yeah thats the main reason i want it is so i can pay attention to everything else rather than hitting it just perfect before i nail the rev limiter. i'm using a autometer pro-shift light w/ rpm pills. that way you don't need any adapters etc. just plug the correct rpm pill in and BAM! works like a champ................. hopefully lol
Update, i've got everything torn apart and wow there are alot of wires under there! i've got a ton of pics but i can't seem to get them uploaded correctly no matter what i do.
Anyway i'm confused on how i'm supposed to find the correct white wire? there are 2 small and 1 bigger white wires. When "probing" the wire am i supposed to have the ignition on or car running or totally off? And how do i probe the wire? i'm using a digital multi-meter and i was just jamming the positive/red probe into the wire but the meter was off and the negative/black probe wasn't connected to anything, is this correct? i just don't want to fry anything lol

NO - dont probe the wire.
There are only 3 whilte wires (assuming my 1999 is similar to other years) I scraped away some insulation form each wire and connected the "Tach input wire" from my shift light to each wire, one at a time - and revvved the engine to 2000 rpm (I set the shift light to come on at 2000). Thats how i found the wire. It was a thin white wire. The Raptor shift light website has some pictures of where the wire is located.

When I installed my raptor shift light, I had tapped into the white wire and it wasn't it. It ended up being the OFF-WHITE wire in that pack. I used the Pink for power and grounded it to the metal strip bar right underneath all that. Been working perfect for about a year. Good luck and let us know how you make out.
BAD *** Guys!! i did a search and didn't find that DIY, Thanks a million!
Warren S - i was going to do that exact thing you did but i was worried that i'd tap into a wrong white wire and fry something lol. I'll get it all figured out tonight and i'll let you guys know. Thanks!

As a last resort, you can cut each wire (3) one at a time and when the tach needle just drops to Zero you know thats the wire - and just solder them back up.
