The corvette is not flex-fuel. What the youtube clip does not say is that your gas mileage is much lower with E85, since the energy content is much less. I go out of my way to avoid using gas with any ethanol. We still have a few stations that sell real gas.

We don't have any flex fuel stations here.

No way E85, you need special fuel lines and pump because of the corrosion properties of ethanol...

All the corn crops are under water. The price of tortillas is going through the roof. E85 is not a good idea.

I have a flex fuel Chevy Tahoe. You can come up with all the excuses you want and it all BS. Yes may its not as efficient as gas, but when I run E85, I get maybe 19 MPG instead of 20 or 21 MPG but at 105 octane I never use passing gear. Forget the tortias and the shortage of corn, a few years back they were paying farmers in the US not to grow corn more BS. Also in California regular gas is $4.47 at Costco, more at other stations. In fact I paid $4.77 for Chevron premium last Tuesday and that was cheap for 91 octane. Now if you can find it here in Calif. E85 is $3.59 and that is 105 octane. I enjoy my Vert and have given some serious thaught into reprogramming my Vert to run on E85 so I can afford to continue driving it. Also you do not need corn to make E85 you can use some types of grass or sawdust or even trash.

Maybe not all BS, I drive an E-85 Ford Explorer (V6) at work in the states. It gets about 7 mpg. The best I ever got out of it was 11mpg.

Man you need to get that checked out-my H2 Hummer (12mpg) gets better than that.

Nope, the C5 is not set up to run E-85. I believe that a flex-fuel vehicle has different seals/gaskets/fuel lines than a gasoline only car.

Ok, here are the official government figures on comparative gas mileage.

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byfuel/FFV2000.shtml

As you can see fuel mileage is considerably less for E-85 and there is no significant cost advantage. Also, the real cost of E-85 is much greater, due to government subsidies. There is a $0.51/gallon federal subsidy for ethanol producers. The real cost is much greater since diversion of farm land to corn production has driven up the price for corn and other food crops. As for cellulosic ethanol, the technology is still experimental and there is considerable doubt whether the economics will ever be viable.

once the demand really begins to go up, farmers will just grow more corn, its that simple. we have more corn than we know what to do with and like said before, there is diff corn for diff uses.

The video shows that the fuel pump and fuel lines in a non-E85 Tahoe were fine.
